🌱Not sure what to do with garlic scapes? These tender, curly garlic shoots are incredibly versatile and add a fresh, mild garlic flavour to so many dishes!

Here are a few delicious ways to use them:
🧄 Garlic scape pesto
🧈 Garlic scape butter
🥣 Creamy soups
🥔 Roasted with potatoes and vegetables
🍝 Tossed into pasta dishes
🥩 Chopped into marinades for meat
🍳 Mixed into scrambled eggs or omelettes
🥗 Sliced fresh into salads
🫙 Pickled garlic scapes
🍕 Sprinkled on homemade pizza
🔥 Grilled whole as a tasty side dish
🌱 Dehydrated and ground in to garlic scape powder or garlic scape salt

Garlic Scapes 🧄 🌱
It’s almost time!

Since scapes are a timely harvest, some storage ideas are important.

1. Keep them in a plastic bag, loosely sealed in the fridge. A wet paper towel in there is also a good idea to help keep them fresh. And yes - you’ll get a punch to your senses when you open your fridge! This should buy you about 2 weeks.

2. Chop & freeze on parchment paper, then seal the frozen pieces in a bag in your freezer.

3. Make a bouquet! Put the cut ends in a glass of clean water, loosely cover, and set in the fridge. This should buy you about 2 weeks if you change the water regularly.

We’ll share some of our own ideas for what to do with them soon! We’ve pickled, made scape butter, and cooked with them. All of these are delicious options! 🧄 🌱

Garlic Scapes - What are they?

Garlic scapes are the flower stalk that shoots up from the centre of the garlic plant mid-summer. They are tender and packed full of sweet, mild garlic flavour!

Timing is important! When they horseshoe and curl around once, that's the best time to snip them off. This helps redirect energy from flowering and producing little bulbils, back to the bulb growing in the soil. 🧄
