Ruby had her first ride under saddle this past weekend!

She did SO well. This girl has such a calm demeanour, and took everything in stride. Especially for only being in a halter!

Ruby is going to make an exceptional horse for somebody!

Meet Remi!

Remi is a 15 year old registered standardbred mare (tattooed and we have physical papers in hand). She stands around 14.2 hh.

Remi has a very gentle and sweet personality. She stands tied, loads and trailers well and stands for the vet and farrier. She is currently barefoot, and UTD on vaccines / deworming.

Remi is currently suited for a companion home. She does have a sway back, and an old injury in her hind leg which causes her to have a hitch in her step. She is sound in the pasture, and with time and maintenance she may be suitable to carry a light rider, but at this time she is not broke to ride and we are looking for a low expectation home for her.

She is very sweet and easy to handle on the ground. Good with kids, but can be nervous and does need a bit of correction at times. She’s not dirty, has never offered a kick or bite, just can have moments where she needs a bit of reassurance.

Please reach out with any questions about Remi, or to schedule a visit if you think she would be a good fit with your family!

Remi is currently located just outside of Clinton, and available for adoption for 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

Introducing our newest member of the herd, who was brought home last night!

We got a call about this sweet girl a couple weeks ago, but we weren’t able to pick her up until this week since he wanted to keep using her. He finally got a new horse to replace her, so he called us earlier this week.

She’s older, and has a big leg so was not able to hold up to the heavy work load anymore. We had to pay $800 to get her safe, as these big gals are worth a lot in meat.

She definitely is in need of some groceries, and her feet are in bad shape. We suspect she will likely need a teeth float, and she’ll get her vaccines done shortly as well.

So far she has settled into quarantine well. She is still a little unsure of people, but that’s expected with her history. She has such a kind nature to her, a true gentle giant. We cannot wait to see her personality come out, as she settles into her new life and learns for the first time what it is like to really be a horse.

Stay tuned for updates on this girl! She still is in need of a name, so comment any suggestions you have!

On Tuesday all our new arrivals saw the vet!

First up was miss Remi - Remi went through the auction advertised as recently bred to a standardbred stallion, and we wanted to confirm this. Her ultrasound showed her NOT pregnant, which is fantastic news. Remi has a sway back and an old injury in her hind leg which causes her gait to be a little off, and the added weight of a pregnancy would not have been ideal for her. After her ultrasound, we also got her UTD on all the necessary vaccines.

The next up was Nigel, who we purchased from auction along with Remi. He went through with little information, only being advertised as “aged standardbred gelding”. We had our vet give him his vaccines, and give his teeth a check. We were pleased to hear that this handsome man is only around 5 years old! He has put weight on nicely over the last couple weeks, and it has been amazing to see his goofy personality come out.

The two newest members of our herd also got UTD on their vaccines. The gelding with the head injury is healing nicely, he’s going to remain on antibiotics for a few more days to ensure no infection sets in, but so far everything is heading in the right direction. We gave the little Belgian Filly an overall health check, and our vet thinks that she may be a little older than we originally thought. Her teeth put her more towards the 2-3 year old mark, however with such a malnourished body it is difficult to pin point that age right now. As she develops and puts on weight, this should become a little more clear.

Overall we are very pleased with how this appointment went. Over the next couple weeks we will be testing Nigel and Remi under saddle, and then they will be available for adoption. Stay tuned!

Earlier this week we got a call from someone with a few horses he wanted us to come look at. He wanted to know if we were interested in buying them before they went for meat.

Thanks to our incredible team, we were able to pick up these two new faces on Wednesday night.

The first was a handsome standardbred gelding, who we were able to track (thanks to his tattoo). He’s only 18 year old and had a pretty successful racing career!
When we went to see him, he had a huge gash in his forehead, likely due to loose metal on the low ceiling of the concrete box he was living in. His entire forelock peeled right off his face, as well as having several infected wounds on his legs. Hanging off his halter was a tag that labeled him “meat horse”.

The second was a young Belgian filly, only a year old. She is absolutely covered in manure, and already so fearful of people. She was born with a crooked front leg, which essentially marked her “useless” from day one. This baby girl is now safe, with her entire future ahead of her thanks to everyone involved with this rescue.

We paid a combined total of $1600 to get these guys safe, not including their upcoming vet bill. If anybody would like to donate to these guys, e transfers can be sent to [email protected]

We are so grateful for everyone that stepped up to help with these guys, and we cannot wait to see how they settle into their new lives. Getting these calls and seeing the reality of the way these animals live is hard, but we are so grateful we get them. It gives us an opportunity to save them, and we are so glad that we did.

Welcome to the Laurel lane here to these two beautiful souls 💕 stay tuned for updates!

It’s crazy how much of a difference less than 2 weeks can make.

Nigel came from the auction at the end of April. He hasn’t been here for long, but we are so happy to see that shine in his coat and the happy, spunky side of his personality come out!

Congratulations to the new owners of miss Sophie!

This one was very bittersweet. We will miss this girl dearly, she has been a part of our herd since she was only 2 months old, and watching her grow up over the past couple years has truly been a blessing.

It’s going to be weird not having her here, but we are so grateful to her new family for offering her a spot in their heart, and welcoming her home. She is so deserving of all the love, and we are thankful to have been a part of her story.

Here’s to Sophie, and everything the future holds for this special girl 💕

Meet “Lil Orphan Andy” (AKA Andy) and “Busy Lady Bee” (AKA Lady)

Lady is a 25 year old standardbred mare looking for a companion type home. She is very sweet and easy to handle on the ground. She picked up all 4 feet in the pasture without anyone holding onto her, and was very happy to follow people around.

Lady is a retired racer / driving horse. She is not currently broke to ride, but with her calm demeanour it wouldn’t take much to turn her into a light riding kids horse / trail buddy. She is looking for a low expectation home where she can just be loved and fussed over.

Andy is a 24 year old gelding, who was an orphan and lost his mom during delivery. His entire birth story is recorded with time stamps by his owner. He didn’t grow up with a mom to teach him how to be a horse. Imagine that pesky little brother who pesters you (at 24 years old). He likes to toot around the pasture and butt bounce.

After a racing career and a period as a driving horse, Andy has spent his entire life on the same farm, following a consistent daily routine of nighttime stall residence and daytime turnout (though we do believe he would do just fine on 24/7 turn out and blankets in the winter). His owners have a tradition of bringing him liquorish treats in the evening, which he looks forward to.

Due to his age, Andy would be best suited in a companion role with low expectations, although he may be started in light saddle training.

Both horses will be dewormed and receive a trim prior to leaving. They are located near Ben Miller, and a small adoption fee will be applied to ensure a soft landing. We can test their willingness to a saddle and rider for interested parties. Reach out for more information or to book a meet and greet!

An update on our recent intakes, Nigel and Remi!

These two sweet souls are settling in well. So far we have gotten their shoes pulled, and given them the week to just rest. They are both very intrigued with people, and loving the attention they are getting.

We will be getting them checked over by the vet shortly, for an overall check up and to get them UTD on the regular vet care they have been missing out on. We will also get an ultrasound done on miss Remi, to confirm whether or not she is in foal for next year!
