Once outside temperatures are consistently below 10 degrees, the focus turns to insulation and moisture control for the months ahead. Side insulation is added to reduce heat loss. Top insulation and a moisture quilt help manage both heat loss and condensation, which is critical in a Southwestern Ontario winter. Ventilation is adjusted to allow moisture to escape without creating drafts, and entrance reducers are installed to limit exposure while still allowing airflow.

These final steps help the hive stay dry, stable, and energy-efficient, increasing the odds of survival through winter.
