We sell TWO different Blue Lotus botanicals — and there's a reason we identify them separately. 🪷
If you've searched for Blue Lotus online, you've probably seen flowers that look dramatically different from one seller to another — even though they're all being called “Blue Lotus.”
That's because “Blue Lotus” is a common name, not a precise botanical identification.
At Black Hill Woods, we currently carry two distinct products:
🪷 Nymphaea caerulea
Commonly known as Egyptian Blue Lotus or Egyptian Blue Water Lily.
🪷 Nymphaea nouchali
Commonly known as Blue Water Lily or Star Lotus and also frequently marketed under the broader “Blue Lotus” name.
These are related water lilies, and you'll encounter considerable overlap in the names used for them online. That doesn't mean one has to be “good” and the other “bad” — they're simply not products we want to sell without telling you exactly what you're receiving.
That's why we list the botanical species.
If you buy Nymphaea caerulea from us, the package identifies it as Nymphaea caerulea.
If you buy Nymphaea nouchali from us, the package identifies it as Nymphaea nouchali.
