Update, the Sequel:
This morning we were contacted by an RCMP officer after a report was made by one of the property owners accusing us of inciting threats of gun violence towards them stemming from our fb post.
I have not seen any such threats associated with this post, but still we ask people not to do so.
We do not wish any harm to come to any of the individuals involved.
We are not looking for the public to carry out vigilante justice.
It is our position that this is now a civil
matter for the courts to decide what is just and fair.
The truth will come out, we have nothing to hide.
UPDATE: THE YAKS ARE SAFE!
We’ll post the whole story for people to read as soon as the dust settles down. But tonight thanks to our brave cowgirls and cowboys, neighbours, friends and Shuswap Veterinary Services, our animals are all safe and sound.
Thankyou for all the online support and encouragement we have received throughout this ordeal. 🙏🏻
Public Service Announcement
This message goes out to our friends and neighbors in the Back Enderby Rd, Stepney Rd, Stepney X Rd and surrounding area of Spallumcheen.
For the past few months our livestock have been caught up in the middle of an escalating land lease dispute since the properties we have farmed since 2023 were sold and new owners took possession.
Since that time we have been intimidated and bullied off the land; our water was cut off, electric fence energizers were disconnected, fence lines were cut, and padlocks were installed on gates restricting access to care for or remove our animals.
With the help of the RCMP we have been able to load out most of our herd but a few wild Yaks still remain. Individuals in the community who have stepped up to help provide water and feed have been threatened with trespassing and vandalism by the land owners.
As of yesterday, another attempt was made to capture the remaining animals which was unsuccessful; the landowner has since made claims that as of today he plans to shoot and harvest the animal for himself.
We have been in constant contact with authorities regarding the ongoing situation, but our concern is for the safety of the Yaks and the public. With our fencing infrastructure compromised it is only a matter of time before they break out and are loose in the community.
Our message to the public is this:
If you encounter a Yak on your property or on the road please call us or the RCMP and do not approach it.
If you are a meat processor/butcher and you receive a yak carcass, please assume that it is stolen and call us or the RCMP.
Please share or message us, our ranch family needs all the help it can get.
