Reminder that it's a tough year for fruit farmers because of excessive rain. Be patient if you come across poorer quality berries.

I think I may have found a nearby farm that has berries that taste like Grunthal Berries... they have Sandy soil, like we do... which typically produces really sweet berries.

M&E in Hadashville also has excellent tasting berries.

Remember: all the strawberries on farms this year have immense disease pressure due to all the rain.
I noticed that Hildebrant has some brown spots on their berries... these spots can be trimmed and do not affect strawberry flavour. The brown spotted strawberries can easily be cooked into jam. It will be fine. (For freezer jam, I would take the time to trim the berries...)

It's definitely haskap season! Check pfga.com for a farm near you. (I actually went to Zhoda Family Farm to pick today... they have a FB page).
I'm eating them fresh now, but I also dehydrate them to add to my cereal in winter.

Saskatoons are completely finished blooming in southern Manitoba... now they look like little green berries who still have a 'flower' bottom. Kinda like apples...

Some WILD PLUM blossoms are pink... now is the time to find the wild plum trees and remember where they are in August! Plums are the only wild fruit tree blooming right now (around the Grunthal area).
