All orders are ready for pickup, and we also have fresh produce available for sale market-style while quantities last.

✨ Highlights of the week:

🥗 Fresh Spinach is back and looking beautiful! Perfect for a crisp salad, wraps, or adding to your favorite recipes.

🥔 Baker Potatoes are a great addition to any BBQ meal now that the rain has finally moved on.

🍎 Honeycrisp Apples are sweet, crisp, and perfect for snacking, packing in lunch bags, or baking into your favorite treats.

Guysborough, we heard you. ❤️

First, thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out our survey. We truly appreciate the feedback and support.

It was unanimous that our current location is central and accessible, which was wonderful to hear. As for pickup times, opinions were split — some prefer earlier pickups while others would like later ones. We will continue trying our best to make things work for as many people as possible.

We also received many suggestions about ordering ahead versus shopping in person. We completely understand that most people would prefer to pick out their own produce. Unfortunately, that changed when funding ran out and leftover produce had to be covered out of our own pockets. Some weekends we were left with over $300 worth of produce, and while we love this program and what it brings to the community, we simply cannot continue personally covering those costs.

Another concern brought up was only offering pickups on Saturdays. We receive our produce Friday evenings, and if it is not distributed quickly, it can spoil. However, we do try to be flexible whenever possible. If Saturday morning pickup does not work for you, please send us a message and we will do our best to arrange something over the weekend. We are also at the soccer field Monday evenings if that is helpful for families.

Most importantly, Square Roots is a charity program run entirely by volunteers. Our goal has always been to support our community by helping provide healthy, affordable food to as many people as possible. Some things we can change and improve, and some things are simply beyond our control. We are not operating as a profitable business — we are doing our best with the resources and volunteers we have.

And finally… Canso, we heard you too. 💚

At this time, our family cannot commit to regularly traveling to Canso. However, if anyone in the area would be interested in volunteering and helping bring the program there, we would absolutely love to speak with you. Whether that means creating your own pickup location or working together with our current Guysborough location, we would love to explore the possibilities.

Square Roots Guysborough Order - May 30th

We will be running the program the same this time, we will review all the feedback from or survey on how we can serve the community better.

Below you will find our order form. At this time we will be taking orders only.
Pickup will be Saturday, May 16th from 9:00–11:00 AM at the Guysborough Kids First location.
Please list the items you would like to purchase along with the amount.
For example: carrots – 5 lbs, honey crisp apples – 10 lbs.
Once we receive pricing on Monday, we will email everyone with their total and instructions for e-transfer payment.
Due to a change in our system, we now need to order full bags of produce and cannot have a large amount leftover. Because of this, if only a small amount of an item is requested, we unfortunately may not be able to order it at this time.
Please note that once an order is placed and paid for, we are unable to provide refunds. If you are unable to pick up your order, please contact us to arrange an alternative pickup option or have someone pick it up on your behalf.
Orders that are not picked up on Saturday will be donated to a local charity.
As always, we will keep the cost of produce as low as possible and do our best to fill all orders.

Hello everyone,

We’re currently looking for feedback about Guysborough Square Roots. Lately, our participation numbers have been getting smaller, and it’s becoming harder to keep the program running. We’ve consistently heard that people are happy to have this program in our community, and we truly appreciate that support.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can better serve our community and improve the program moving forward. If you could take just a couple of minutes to complete our anonymous survey, it would mean a lot to us. I promise — it’s only 3 quick questions!
