Hey! I’m PieceMeal. Well, technically I am not PieceMeal, but I built this business on my lived principles so in a way we are one and the same.
I operate out of the Annapolis Valley and I want people to know a little more about what PieceMeal is.
First:
Piecemeal is a meal kit that helps you eat local every single week
PieceMeal is a business that operates out of the valley and cares about the rivers and lakes and streams
It supports local community events with food that’s made fresh and local
It sources from farms I work closely with. I even work on a farm 3 days a week to learn more about growing food without the harmful overuse of pesticides.
I care about the food I eat and the food you eat and how it all affects how we live.
I think our food system could be better, which is why I started this business.
I believe in the right to access nutritious food and want this for folks that struggle to access it because of cost, education or place.
The solution is simple. But it’s a lot of hard work.
This August I’m starting a promotion so more people can learn what we do:
Share this post on your stories and I’ll send you a code to save $10 on a “Try a Week” subscription. That means for $46 you can have 6 portions to boost your week and make 3 plant based meals (or add protein guided by suggestions sent out every week)

I’m doing this because I believe in the future of food sovereignty and security. I think everyone has the right to eat highly nutritious food and I’m doing what I can to make that happen! See you in August!

Thank you so much for being diligent with jar returns this week! With more kits to prepare, I was wondering if we would have enough!
When I order jars for delivery, shipping alone is around $100.
When I order through Richard’s Packaging in Dartmouth, they require I pick up by 4pm on a weekday (hmm I work in the Valley)
If I were to go to the more affordable company to make an order their minimum is $500 (!!)
So, the simplest, most cost effective solution is to return these jars each week, leaving more budget for those fresh veggies!
🥕
So a BIG THANK YOU!

The importance of community in trying times.
For over 2 years now, Community Garden Kjipuktuk has been collaborating with PieceMeal to feed the people of Kjipuktuk.
Nailah and Hannah have worked tirelessly to build relationships in communities who struggle to access food to sustain themselves through the failure of a system who refuses to recognize food as a human right.
Each week they pick up kits to deliver to folks paid for by PieceMeal customers who generously provide the funds because they understand the importance of making sure their neighbours’ needs are met. Through a grant provided by Feed Nova Scotia, CGK has expanded the program by purchasing more weekly meal kits AND the protein and items needed to complete the meals.
Everyone deserves fresh, local and nourishing food and I can’t begin to describe the generosity of the folks at Community Garden Kjipuktuk, connecting people with food through relationship building, garden growing, marketing efforts, planning and delivery. And the generosity of the PieceMeal community to add on a little extra each month to make our meal kits more accessible blows me away.
Food systems are a fascinating study. We need to keep an eye on them and make sure the people responsible for moving our food are accountable to us the eaters. Take note of where your food comes from, what strange ingredients are included in them and how what you eat affects your physical and mental health. It’s all connected and through community we can absolutely inspire change for our plates.
