You’ve been asking us for these for years and we’re very excited to say they’ve finally arrived at The Great British Shop!

We’re now carrying the fantastic Brennan’s Irish food range, including:

- Irish-style bacon
- Traditional pork bangers
- Cocktail sausages
- Celtic Gourmet black pudding
- Celtic Gourmet white pudding

So yes... a proper full Irish breakfast is officially on the cards! 🇼đŸ‡ȘđŸłđŸ„“

This is a brand-new line for us and you’ll notice a mix of Brennan’s and Celtic Gourmet packaging for a little while. Over the coming weeks and months, the Brennan’s packaging will gradually transition to Celtic Gourmet.

🇬🇧 SCONES ARE $3.99 A BAG THIS WEEKEND! 🇬🇧

We’re kicking off the weekend with a proper little bakery special (starting now, Thursday!)

Freshly baked scones are just $3.99 a bag, while supplies last!

And yes, we have clotted cream in stock too, so there’s really no excuse for doing this badly.

Jam first or cream first? We’re staying out of it, because we know the answer is jam first.

We’ve also had a HUGE grocery restock this week, with THREE pallets of new stock arriving at the shop.

We’re talking loads of chocolate, even more biscuits, sweets, pantry favourites, sauces, condiments and all the usual British essentials.

Basically, breakfast through to dinner is covered, along with every completely unnecessary snack you might require in between.

The freezers are packed too.

Warburton’s Toastie bread and crumpet, alongside loads of Mr Kipling favourites, Potato Waffles and a great range from Iceland, Aunt Bessie’s, McCain and Linda McCartney.

Fishcakes, fish pies, crispbakes, chips, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls, vegetarian pies, vegan sausage rolls and plenty more.

You could probably come in with a shopping list.

You won’t stick to it, obviously, but you could bring one.

And, as always, the bakery counters are absolutely loaded.

Fresh pork pies, sausage rolls, pies, pasties, fresh cream cakes, cakes, slices, desserts and all the other things you only came in to “have a quick look” at.

So if you’ve been waiting for a proper restock, this is a very good weekend to pop in.

And don’t forget the scones.

🏮󠁧󠁱󠁳󠁣󠁮󠁿 SCOTCH PIES ARE OFFICIALLY BACK! 🏮󠁧󠁱󠁳󠁣󠁮󠁿

They have technically been back for a few days, but we’ve been trying not to shout about it too loudly until we could get properly ahead.

A few people spotted them on our Instagram and Facebook stories earlier this week, our regulars noticed them sitting on the counter and apparently everyone began stocking up as though the Scotch pie machine were due to break again tomorrow.

Which, given our recent luck, was not an entirely unreasonable concern.

After finally receiving the replacement part we needed from the UK, the machine is hot, the pies are baking and we now have lots of Scotch pies in stock.

Apparently, with authentic British baking comes authentic British equipment that simply does not exist anywhere in Canada. Very traditional. Deeply inconvenient.

We’ve also been busy filling wholesale orders. By Friday, you’ll be able to find our Scotch pies with partners in Dartmouth, the Valley and Elmsdale, with more shops across the province restocking again from next week.

And while you’re in, our freezers are absolutely loaded. Warburton’s bread and crumpets are back, along with new Iceland favourites, Linda McCartney country pies and vegan sausage rolls, Aunt Bessie’s and McCain chips, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls, Fabs and plenty more.

And now the important question: how do you eat yours?

Red sauce? Brown sauce? Mushy peas? In a roll? Or straight out of the bag in the car park before you’ve even made it home?

Today is Irwin's last day with us💙🏮󠁧󠁱󠁳󠁣󠁮󠁿

If you're around before 6:00 p.m., pop in and say goodbye!

Over the years, Irwin has become a familiar face to so many of our customers. Whether he was helping you find exactly what you were after, having a chat about football, or just brightening your visit with a smile, he's made a real impression on everyone who walked through our doors.

We're genuinely gutted to see him go, but we're even more excited to see what comes next for him. We know he'll be brilliant in his new role and we wish him nothing but success.

Of course, we couldn't let him leave without sharing this 110% authentic, completely unedited photo of him proudly representing the Union Jack... something we're sure everyone knows has always been very close to his heart🇬🇧😂

The shop is fully stocked, with plenty of fresh arrivals on the shelves and all the proper British favourites you’ve been looking for.

Our bakery counters are filled fresh every day with scones, sausage rolls, Scotch eggs and more and our pork pies are finally back in the counter!

We’ve also got Percy Pigs in stock, along with plenty of other M&S favourites.

It’s another absolute roaster out there and Ribfest is on this weekend. Brilliant, obviously, but if you don’t fancy baking yourself in the sun while hunting for pork, we’ve got Percy Pigs back in stock at the shop. Same pig-based excitement, far less queueing.

We’ve also had a massive restock in. Irn-Bru is back after a big spike in sales while Scotland were in the World Cup, although according to Irwin, Scotland are still very much in the World Cup as long as England are in it, because any team playing England is automatically Scottish for the day.

For the English customers, don’t worry, I’ve had my fun with him. It’s Coming Home has been playing in the bakery for the last week straight and for Irwin’s Scottish family and friends, I regret to inform you he’s been tapping along. I won’t say singing, but I also won’t swear he wasn’t.

Anyway, football nonsense aside, the shelves are properly full again: Percy Pigs, pistachio Aero, new Marks & Spencer biscuits, Nairn’s crackers and biscuits, loads of chocolate, Barry’s Tea finally restocked after a bit of a hiatus and plenty of Irn-Bru.

Bakery counters are full too: pies, sausage rolls, scones, fresh cream cakes, Victoria sponge, chocolate eclairs, Bakewell tarts, Eccles cakes and more.

It’s hot, the shelves are full and Percy is back.

Fancy working at The Great British Shop?

We’re hiring for a behind-the-scenes role at our shop and bakery in Bayers Lake.

This is not really a light role. It’s a busy, hands-on, active job helping keep the whole place moving.

Packing wholesale bakery orders
Wrapping, labelling and dating meat pies
Picking and packing online grocery orders
Receiving grocery stock
Restocking shelves
Keeping things clean and organized
Helping the bakery team (egg washing, dishes, lidding pies etc)
Jumping in wherever the day takes you

It’s a bit of everything, which is exactly why we need the right person.

We’re a small team, and everyone helps each other out. The days are busy, there’s always something different going on and we have a lot of fun while getting through the work.

There is a physical side to the job. You’ll be on your feet, moving around, lifting boxes, carrying stock, packing orders and keeping pace with a busy food business.

So if you like staying active, enjoy practical work and don’t want to spend your day doing the exact same thing every hour, this could be a great fit.

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, careful, practical, good with details and happy to get stuck in.

Experience in packing, grocery, bakery, food production, warehouse, retail or order fulfilment would be helpful, but attitude matters most.

Freezer favourites are back in Bayers Lake.

We’ve had another big freezer refresh this week and there are some very familiar names back in.

Mr Kipling Bakewell Tarts, Mini Battenbergs, Apple Pies and French Fancies are back, along with Jamaica Ginger Cake, Golden Syrup Cake, Warburtons bread and Warburtons crumpets.

Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle Chips and McCain chips are back too, plus Linda McCartney vegan pies and vegan sausage rolls.

Mayflower Curry & Chips is back as well. That one has been asked about a lot!

There are also lots of in-store sales around the shop, so it’s a decent week to pop in.

Also, small bakery update: about three weeks ago, we quietly added about 25–30% more meat into our sausage rolls to see if anyone noticed.

You did.

The regulars have started commenting, which was exactly what we were hoping for.

So yes, the sausage rolls are now officially more sausagey.

Our first Great British Bargains flyer is here.

You’ll find sale tags around the shop this week, with select items anywhere from 10% to 70% off.

The flyer shows 12 of the items, but there are around 40 items currently on sale in store, including a few not pictured like McVitie’s Ginger Nuts and Cadbury Wispa.

Also, full honesty: making the flyer somehow took longer than filling the bakery counters for the weekend, so next week’s may look slightly different. The deals will still be there though.

Bakery counters are full, shelves have plenty worth nosing through and the sale items are while quantities last.

Be honest, which one of these would you grab first?
And when you’re shopping British groceries, what’s always going in the basket? Crisps? Biscuits? Tea? Chocolate?

Mother’s Day weekend and the shop’s looking the part!đŸŒ·

If you’re sorting a Mother’s Day tea at home, we’ve got scones, clotted cream, plenty of jams, sweet cakes, fresh cream cakes, desserts, vanilla slices are back and a fair few nostalgic British bits Mum probably hasn’t had in years.

Freezers are stocked too, Linda McCartney and Quorn back in, Warburtons crumpets back and the crisp wall is in proper form.

And because it’s the weekend, we’ve got pies. All the regulars, plus three specials:

đŸ„§ Breakfast Pie — sausage, bacon, egg and beans. Basically what happens when a full English and a meat pie get carried away.

đŸ„§ Steak, Haggis & Peppercorn Pie — rich, punchy, exactly what it says.

đŸ„§ Irish Guinness Stew Pie — slow-braised beef in Guinness gravy with potatoes, carrots and onions.

So whether you’re building a Mother’s Day spread, picking up something for Mum, or just using Mother’s Day as a very reasonable excuse to buy scones and crisps, we’re well stocked this weekend.
