We tried to get a farm team photo, but with a large group, someone is bound to be missing! This time Jen B, Roshni, Lana, Ainsley, and Allison were missing, so we’ll have to catch them another time. We were happy that Sean White joined us for the photo and we’re hoping he will be hanging around a lot more soon.

We got a massive harvest together, including carrots, for wholesale and local orders, as well as for Warehouse Market. The field team also got plenty done as they prepared land for cover crop planting. Apparently rain is on the way so it’s a great time to plant!

The Market is located at 2767 King St in Richmond Yards. Free one-hour parking is available in King Square, adjacent to the Market. There is also underground customer parking for $2/hr. Right next to the Market there is covered bike parking.

Ben and Sean, who often work on field prep or special projects, joined the harvest team. We had 3 people on vacation so we were happy for the help. Andee from the admin team also helps harvest herbs on Mondays.

Jen B and Rachel were talking about how extra specially good the kale is, now that the harvest has shifted to a new planting.

The tomatoes are *rocking*. Swipe to see a photo of a blue tonic tomato.

The herbs are also stunning. Please DM if you’re interested in larger amounts of lemon basil, Thai basil, or tulsi (holy basil). Swipe for photos.

Find all of this amazing produce at Warehouse Market, or put in your wholesale order, or your local order if you live near the farm.

The fruiting crops harvest team was very pleased with all the tomatoes they harvested today. The harvest was huge. Rob built special racks for the tomato room so the tomato trays could be stacked at waist height, reducing the need to bend down. We’re trying to set things up to reduce strain on the body. 🍅😁

We sent *two* delivery van loads of farm fresh produce to Warehouse Market this afternoon.

We fully believe in the importance of putting your feet up at lunch! Or lying down in the grass. Swipe for a peek. So many beautiful vegetables and herbs were harvested today for local orders, wholesale, and of course, for Warehouse Market ! It wasn’t nearly as chaotic as it could have been. New this week: the first red peppers!!🌶️

To start, we discovered we had triplets.
🙂

Harvest was long and heavy! So many tomatoes, zucchini, cukes, and now a few eggplants too! A big topic of conversation was figuring out how to most ergonomically get said fruiting crops from greenhouses/fields to Market. How do we move each tomato the fewest times possible?

Everything got washed, packed, cooled, and loaded on to the delivery van. Everything will be available at Warehouse Market. What a great time of year!

The harvest was so big that we had to send 2 delivery vans in to Warehouse Market! When we added Ted Hutten’s melons and Fill Yer Boots eggs, the load on van #1 was too heavy. Rachel and Sarah split the load between 2 vans and off they went!

Of course we all tried the melons. 😁 Highly recommend!

The day started out hazy, and turned to bright sun. We managed to get everything harvested, washed, packed, and loaded into the delivery van by 3pm!

We are so grateful to the farm team and the Market team for their efforts to keep top quality fresh produce flowing from the farm to the market. We’re also so grateful for all the customers who get their groceries at the Warehouse Market 🥰🥰 We are really enjoying meeting all the new customers coming in since we moved to Richmond yards. Thank you for checking us out.

I included a photo of the fourlined plant bug, which we consider to be a pest in herb crops like peppermint, oregano, sage and basil. There is also a photo of two bees in the tulsi. When they are in tulsi, their little leg sacks of pollen are bright orange. They are great pollinators for our crops. The tulsi and the mullein in the next photo are great habitats for beneficial insects.

Local orders are ready to pick up at the farm, wholesale orders are on their way to the Halifax Food Hub, and everything else will be loaded into the coolers at Warehouse Market.

We’re almost at the peak production point of the harvest season. A very exciting time for the harvest team. The field harvest team is so good at what they do that they finished their harvest, and hopped on to the fruiting crop team. Fruiting crops are coming on strong so they needed reinforcements. That is a good thing, btw. 🥒🍅 The herb team was struggling to keep up with their harvest, so a couple of fruiting crop people helped out.

In short, there was a lot to harvest, and we made it work. 🙂

See photo #6 for red shiso. My friend Debbie likes to make pink peaches with red shiso. It’s so nice to have it available at the same time as ripe peaches. We also have green shiso, but the leaf undersides are purple.

And how about all those tomatoes??? And cukes??

If you live near the farm, be sure to get your online order in before noon on Tuesday 🙂

The delivery van left with a very full load of goodness for the coolers of the Warehouse Market this afternoon.

We finished harvest, the delivery van took off very full of juicy produce from our farm, and fresh corn from Wild Thyme Farm! We sent in so many herbs, including lemon verbena.

We were thrilled that Jeff discovered a spider killing and wrapping a striped cucumber beetle! See our story for the short video. It is riveting.

Today was an exceptionally nice harvest day. It was sunny, but much less humid. New this week, we have tomatillos! Also, we have exceptionally high quality Thai basil and tulsi! The fruiting crop harvest took much longer than usual, so that’s a good sign.

We managed to fit in a safety meeting, and we only got one flat tire on the John Deere today.

Please enjoy all the tomatoes, cucumbers, and basil! It’s high summer ☀️

Today is usually a heavier harvest because we supply local and wholesale customers as well as Market customers. Most of the produce went in to Warehouse Market in North End Halifax. The market is open seven days a week. Weekdays: 9 to 6
Weekends: 9 to 4
