HERBS 101 EPISODE 10!!!!! In honour of the tenth edition, we thought it would be nice to round up all the herbs we’ve talked about so far, in one place. Swipe through to read about 9 different herbs that we grow at Abundant Acres and sell here at the Warehouse Market!
HERBS 101 - LEMON BALM🍋🌱
This citrusy herb is super versatile. You can treat it like you would mint or basil, but it’s a bit more delicate so add it right before you eat to make sure you get the brightest lemony flavour.
Use it in savoury dishes, torn up over a salad or garnishing chicken or fish.
In sweet dishes, lemon balm goes beautifully with fresh fruit, or adding an herbaceous flavour to cooked fruit desserts.
Lemon balm also makes a calming tea, can be infused into a refreshing glass of water, or can be cooked into a simple syrup for mixing delicious summery drinks!
HERBS 101 - SORREL🌱🍬
Starting this week we have two beautiful varieties of sorrel, red-veined and green! This herb has a sharp, tart flavour, like lemon, sour candy, or green apple. This makes it perfect for adding in small quantities, to make your flavours pop!
Try it in a fresh pesto or green sauce on a salad, wilted in a creamy soup, or over fish or falafel for added brightness.
Red-veined sorrel also makes a stunning garnish on any dish! Come in today to try some :)
HERBS 101 EDIBLE FLOWERS 🌸🌺🌻
Our edible flower mixes contain varieties like pansies, calendula, borage, nasturtiums, and more! Edible flowers can spruce up your meals as a stunning garnish on desserts, savoury dishes, or drinks. Their flavour is delicate and mild, mostly floral, though some flowers, like nasturtiums, have a more peppery bite to them. Try infusing flowers into tea or simple syrup for added colour and floral taste!
HERBS 101: ANISE HYSSOP 🪻
We have a new herb! Anise hyssop is in the mint family. It has a mild licorice flavour, and can be used in fresh teas or salads. It’s also tasty in baked goods, try pairing it with lemon!
Anise hyssop has also been used in traditional medicine as a cold and cough remedy. It keeps its scent well when dried, so it can be added to homemade potpourri or herb mixes.
