Did you know we grow a cut your own Salad Bar??

We grow these heads of lettuce and you just need to select your head and cut yourself. Here’s a little bit about each of the varieties that we grow.

🥗 Red Express - a red leaf lettuce. It’s tender sweet with a deep burgundy colour for your salads
🥬 Odyssey - a green butterhead/bib variety. It’s crunchy, sweet with a nice flavour. Perfect for any lettuce wrap
🥗 Skyphos - a red butterhead/bib variety. It’s a beautiful deep purple on the edges and green in the centre. It’s flavourful and crisp.
🥬 Arroyo - a romaine variety. A classic v-shaped head with a savory, spicy flavour and great crunch. Perfect for your next Cesar salad.

We will have these available all season long as we continue to plant fresh plugs every-time a lettuce is pulled. Perfect for your home garden or your dinner table.

If you like a bit of pepper in your life, these pepper plants are right up your alley!

Sweet Peppers
🌶️ Red Shepherds - sweet & long, also known as Bull Horn peppers. Great for eating fresh, blistering or cooking
🫑 Bell - bright and sweet. Everyone’s go-to
🌶️ Lunchbox - a variety called “Sweetie”, you can’t go wrong. These are small and have minimal seeds so perfect for packing in lunches or snacks for the little ones
🟡 Sweet Hungarian - great for stuffing or eating fresh. A sweet banana variety

Hot
🌱 Poblano - more Smokey than spicy, great for blistering or BBQ. 1 in 10 will have a bit more of a kick
🌶️ Jalepeno - a real kick of spice. Delicious when you stuff with cream cheese and wrap with bacon
🟡 Hot Hungarian Wax - smaller than the sweets but have a big kick of spice
🌶️ Hot Italian Chili - long and full of seeds, big spice level with a nice sweet and smoky flavour

We still have lots of vegetable transplants (tomato, eggplant, zucchini, tomatillo, squash & more), herbs, lettuce heads, rhubarb plants & native seedlings. We have fresh garlic scapes, rhubarb, green garlic, apple cider vinegar with the regular sweet and hard cider in the barn.

Open daily from 8am to 6pm

While our tomato, pepper and vegetable plants start to grow in the field, we have a few other produce available.

🥬 Our living salad bar has some nice size heads available. Great option to cut fresh or re-plant in your garden for the coming weeks
🌱Rhubarb is pulled fresh daily
🧄 Green Garlic - similar to green onions but with a nice garlic aroma.

We expect our first field vegetables to be ready early July, peaches by mid-July, apples and pears by mid-August

What’s growing on in our orchard??

🐦‍⬛ Lots of friends are keeping us company
🌱 Our first planting of trees this spring are starting to grow. We’re doing the first round of leader selection by removing any vegetation from the rootstock
🍎 Examining our fruit set. You can see how the king bloom takes off and outgrows the remaining fruit.
🌳 We planted “dormant bench grafted sleeping eye trees” this year. A good visual of the difference the rootstock and scion wood (apple variety).

This is often feels like the most busy season of the year. We often are trying to get a long list of jobs done at the same time while harvest is just one job - pick apples. Hopefully this gives you a bit more of an understanding of what we’re doing day to day.

The wagon is open daily with lots of vegetable plants, herbs, pollinators, native seedlings, apple & pears trees, fresh lettuce, rhubarb and more!

Yes, we still have vegetable plants!

Here’s a bit about our cherry tomato selection

🟡 Datto Lemon, Apple Yellow, Indigo Kumquat
🟠 Orange Zinger, Sun Dipper
🔴 Sugar Rush, Indigo Drop
🟤 Lucky Tiger, Chocolate Sprinkle

A few tips for planting
- Plant them deep. Cherry tomatoes grow to about 6 feet so you want a strong stem
- Pinch the first set of flowers to allow the plant to strengthen before producing fruit
-Plant in a row and create trellis to support the plants

Open all weekend - 8am to 6pm

Did you know that we offer a selection of tomato, pepper, eggplant and other assorted vegetable plants?

Here’s our selection round tomato plants that we currently have in stock

🍅 Mountain Merit - a good producing, beefsteak style tomato. Perfect for slices on your BBLTs (bacon, BASIL, lettuce & tomato)

🟤 Darkstar - a “purple” beefsteak tomato that has a great rich flavour. This is the tomato of choice for the tomato lovers in our family

🍅 Primo Red - a red tomato that would produce a smaller fruit than beefsteak but still great for slicing and eating fresh. Juicy with a good flavour

🍊Chef’s Choice - an orange beefsteak variety that has a milder acidity to it. Great for slicing, eating fresh or to add a bit of colour to your salad

🥫Sicillian Saucer - an heirloom, beefsteak tomato that an Italian friend has asked us to grow. It’s their choice for their family sauce.

🌕 Carolina Gold - a yellow beefsteak which is perfect for those that love tomatoes but want something less acidic. It’s great for eating fresh but also is a great choice for gazpacho.

Open all weekend 8am to 6pm

Earlier this week, we planted our first batch of gladioli. Every season we plant glads in 2 to 3 successive fields which allows us to cut from early July until frost.

We currently have some extra bulbs available on the wagon if you’d like your own glads in your garden.
