Highland is back on the menu! Come on out and grab some of this latest beef. This highland was not raised on our farm but I got a call asking if I wanted him and he looked good enough to eat! He was a solid looking steer on a nice lush pastures, he has rich red colour and a decent amount of fat for a highland. Come on out and give him a try and see if I picked a good one. See you soon The Hartell Homestead and remember we are open year round every day but wed and Christmas!

Our pork is in!! These are the hogs we raised right here on the farm they rolled through are pastures all summer and were an absolute pleasure to have. The meat turned out amazing gorgeous colour and great marbling throughout. Biggest guy came in at 227lbs on the rail so well over 300lbs live ( the tape measure worked). We did a lot of special cuts of these guys including back bacon, country hams, sliced ham, Mennonite sausage and of course lots of bacon, pork chops, roasts and ribs. Come on in and get some before it’s all gone. The Hartell Homestead

Well, over the past 5 years the goats have jumped fence, busted through fence and really just given us a lot of grief. But, we are going to keep them lol. The pigs have gone to town so the goats are having a little vacay in the pig pen while we redo their fence and living area. We invested in goat fence so should last longer and it’s a little higher so here’s hoping Tina can’t jump it.

Time for the pigs to go to town, but before they go I wanted to test out a method of weighing the pigs without a scale. This method involves getting their girth And length measurements. Then you take that girth times it by its self then times that number by the length and finally divide that by 400. If this works out proper that means my biggest pig pork chop is 312 lbs. I knew they looked good but I wouldn’t have guessed that one. Have you tried this before how did it measure up? Let me know in the comments and hartell homestead pork will be coming to the farm shop soon. Thanks for watching. The Hartell Homestead
