With heavy hearts, the Gitanmaax Fire Department mourns the loss of one of our own.

Today, we honour the life of a devoted firefighter, teammate, friend, and valued member of our community. He served with courage, compassion, and a quiet dedication that touched the lives of many. Whether answering the call for help or lending a hand to those in need, his presence made a difference, and he will be deeply missed.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and all who knew and loved him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as we share in this profound loss and grieve together.

As a fire department and as a community, we stand united in remembrance, gratitude, and respect for a life dedicated to serving others. We will carry his memory with us and honour the legacy he leaves behind.

Rest in peace. Your watch has ended, but your spirit will forever remain in our hearts. You will never be forgotten and will always be part of our fire family.

Gitanmaax Market will be closed Wednesday, September 30, for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We’ll reopen Thursday, October 1, during our regular hours.

This is a day to remember the children who never came home from residential schools, honour Survivors and their families, and reflect on the lasting impacts on Indigenous communities. We encourage everyone to take time to listen and learn.

Taking Food Safety Seriously — Even When the Power Is Off

Last night, the Town had a planned power outage. At Gitanmaax Market, preparing for an outage means more than simply closing the cooler doors and hoping for the best.

To protect our refrigerated products, we rented a refrigerated re**er trailer and moved our temperature-sensitive products into it before the outage. It meant extra planning, extra work and moving a lot of product — but it ensured our food remained properly refrigerated and protected throughout the outage.

This is the kind of care you should expect from your grocer of choice.

Our customers trust us to provide fresh, safe, quality food, and we take that responsibility seriously. Whether it’s preparing for a power outage, maintaining our equipment, improving our store or simply making sure the products on our shelves meet the standards you expect, our team is always working behind the scenes to take care of the details.
