Roosters and Cockerels available 🐓

All FREE. DM for pick up or questions.

2 Silver Ameraucana cockerels. Hatched end of June. Inconsistent feather patterning for Silvers so I'm not adding any to my project pens.

4 assorted Fibro Easter Egger roosters. Hatched between April and June and are variations of light grey with some faint lacing throughout their bodies, and some with red "leakage". Didn't get photos of all of them but can.

Just trying to find them flocks of their own before signing them up for Rooster Camp.

Sorry no, I don't have any hens are pullets for this year 😔.

With the 2026 season wrapped up, I've decided to open up the email list for 2027 earlier than anticipated. Pre-orders likely won't open until December or early January, but I've already started getting requests! 😁

More details to follow in the coming months, but there may be some slight changes to availability next year.

Final update: Due to the predator invasion we had earlier this summer, there won't be any hens or pullets available this year. Apologies to those who have been waiting for an update.

Officially Mite free! But recently experienced a predator loss 😭

I'm experiencing a lot of "firsts" this year. First time with mites a little over a month ago, and now our "first" predator loss.

A few weeks ago, a pair (maybe even a small pack) of coyotes decided to mosy in to the chicken area the same night I decided to wait an extra 30 minutes to tuck the chickens away for the night. The coops have been hot, the mites were relentless in our one coop, and the grow outs have been reluctant with going in to roost. I wanted them to learn to go in themselves instead of always having to corral them inside.

Well, that didn't work out.

When I finally went out around dusk, I opened the gate to the free ranging area and immediately saw a pile of feathers. My heart sank. "Maybe some of them got into an argument", I thought. I kept walking around the corner and saw more and more feathers. I quickly started to do a head count in each of the coops.

Banana and babies are fine. ✅
Polish flock is fine. ✅
Main coop with my Hmongs and Fibro EE are fine, but maybe looking like we're missing a few. ✅
Evergreen Eggers and Grow outs....adults seem accounted for, but I could only see 2/19 grow outs. S**t 😭

I did a walk around the yard and saw a few of them roosting on a fallen branch. I collected them all and put them in the coop. Then at the corner of my eye I saw something with a mouthful of chicken bouncing around the canola field that surrounds the yard; if it was any other situation, I would have thought that was a cute moment to witness. I kept searching for more chickens and called my fiancé outside for back up. As I walked towards the back of the yard, I saw a coyote poke its head out the grass about 10 feet from me and it spooked and took off. We started to do a thorough sweep through the thick, tall grass and found 3 more grow outs in the lilac bushes, 1 perched on the greenhouse window ledge, and 1 tiny Wheaten Ameraucana wayyyyy up in a poplar tree. All babies were collected and put in the coops. 4 bodies found; including my sweet Wheaten Marans cockerel I was planning on keeping 😭

16 missing total. We searched well after dark and eventually called it quits. The next morning as I went to let the dogs out, I saw 2 chickens roaming around our side yard. Later that day as I went to feed the horses, I heard something behind the garage - one of my Fibro EE cockerels. 11am then rolled around and found 2 other grow outs trying to get back into their yard.

I was relieved to have 5 find their way back, but have come to the realization that 11 are gone — almost all pullets. It was devastating, but it's the risk of allowing flocks to free range unsupervised.

"Where there's livestock, there's dead stock"....that's certainly true.

My assumption is that the coyotes knew my routine and found an opportunity for themselves for a quick dinner. I'm so thankful the majority of my flock was likely already roosting in their coops before the coyotes entered the yard and started to pick them off. Unsupervised free ranging is officially over for the year.

Thank you to the small group of customers I have reached out to to see if I could buy a Wheaten Marans cockerel back. I'm so thankful that I was able to track another down to replace our sweet boy that was lost 😔

While this loss was minimal in comparison to the size of my flock, this means that I will have a very, very limited amount of ladies available in the fall. I'm waiting for our last few grow outs to mature before making any decisions. I know many of you have signed up for POL/ laying hen availability, and I've really appreciated everyone's patience 🙏🏻

I'm hoping to have my list ready by early or mid September.

Yes, my flock has them 😭

Before I left for a 2.5-week holiday abroad, I did my summer coop clean-out and felt so accomplished leaving our farm sitter with fresh, clean coops! But when I returned home, I went to say hello to the chickens, and one of my coops was COVERED in teeny-tiny creepy crawlies around the roosts and cracks in the walls. It almost just looked like dust until I stopped to watch them for a few seconds — YUP, that "dust" was moving. 🤮

I checked the other three coops and couldn't see a single mite, but I knew all of them must have them in some capacity.

My first weekend back consisted of complete coop clean-outs, spraying down every nook and cranny, and treating the chickens. It was exhausting, and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed, sad, frustrated, and disappointed that we have an infestation. I've never, ever had mites in our coops before.

But I need to remember that mites are a part of nature, and this very warm, humid weather is the perfect environment for them to thrive. We have so many wild birds living and nesting on our property, so it was bound to happen eventually.

My plan of action was to clean and spray the coops, then treat the chickens topically three times, every 10 days. The first treatment has been very effective, but I can still see the odd one crawling around... *shivers*.

**What I'm using:**

* **Elector PSP** Not available in Canada, but Roslin Poultry in Ontario sells small vials of it. I'm SO thankful I've always kept some on hand just in case. I sprayed down the entire coop, including the fresh shavings, with this.

**Ivermectin Pour-On** A few drops on the back of their necks, given the same day the coops were treated. I treated everyone once they were roosting at night because it was WAY easier to treat them and keep track of who I'd already done.

While I'm definitely frustrated that I now have a battle ahead of me, I'm glad I caught it before I started letting go of some of our grow-outs and laying hens. This means they won't be available until September at the earliest, just to ensure the mites are completely gone.

If you purchased grow-outs from me in June, please check your coops and chickens. You likely won't see them on your chickens during the day, so I recommend thoroughly checking the ends of your roosts. If you quarantined them (as everyone should when adding new chickens to their flock), your risk should be minimal. I never saw them when I cleaned the coops at the end of June, but it only takes one mite for a population to explode.

Does anyone remember this time last year, one of my Polish hens, Bananas, was HOARDING eggs in their free range area for a whole month before she decided to sit on them? I had no idea this was her plan. The night she decided to stay put, I thought I lost her to a hawk. I searched and searched but couldn't find her; I even took the dogs out with me until sundown with still no sign of her.

The next morning, I did another sweep. But this time, I decided to double check behind a broken piece of fence. YUP - she was there...along with over THIRTY eggs. I collected her up and 10 of the eggs and put her in a safe spot in the coop to hatch them. 3 days later, she decided motherhood wasn't something she was interested in pursuing anymore.

Well...over the last 2 weeks she has gone broody in the Polish coop, relentlessly sitting in the same spot with no sign of moving or giving up. So, I placed our freshly hatched Silver Ameraucanas under her last night. Just like that, she's a momma! She seems to have accepted them so I'm very happy for her, and happy that I don't have to deal with the dust of baby chicks in our chick nursery 🤣
