We got away for a few days for our other work project so a big thanks to Lillie and Farmer Gord (aka Dad) for looking after the homestead.
And to put out a plug for the Group of Seven Lake Superior Trail, if you love hiking, you need to go visit. I know I’m biased but it is spectacular!

Farmer Gord restocked the farmstand with yellow and green beans, lots of cucs, cabbage, zucchini, lettuce, eggs, honey….. lots of yummy things at this time of year!

The Hurkett Community Centre dropped off more baking today!
Pies (Wild Blueberry, Strawberry Rhubarb), Bread (white, garlic & herb, Jalapeno & Cheddar) and some Coffee Cake Loaves.
All proceeds are for their capital construction campaign!

More baking was just dropped off in the farm stand at Hurkett Hill Farm, come get it while it lasts!

Had a lot of sideways glances in the grocery store yesterday as I rolled up to the checkout with 5 cases of Roma tomatoes in my cart 😂 Only one case for us as we still have some stewed tomatoes from last year (when I did up 4 cases.). Just a top up case this year.
My goal is to grow enough for us and to sell but honestly the cost of a box vs the inputs of time, space, care isn’t really worth it. Yes homegrown always tastes better but sometimes you take small wins and keep moving. Roma tomatoes is that for me.
So save those glances for Terri at Four Acre Farm Northern Ontario as she’ll be very busy over the next few days canning in the kitchen getting through her 4 cases…. .
It’s a busy time of year!

The crab apple trees are loaded this summer! Can’t wait for some epic crabapple juicing for jellies and cocktail/mocktail mix 😘
While we wait….. we just restocked the fridge and stand with the most tender lettuce, cabbages of all sizes and some broccoli. Off to get some more spuds and cucs. And to check the beans…..

I couldn’t figure out at first why the chickens were freaking out when I fed them tonight. The rabbits running around their cages a bit panicky. Then I realized it was the yellow poncho that I was wearing as it was still raining when I started chores. Calm again when I took it off. Funny farm animals 🤭

Farmstand stocked with farm fresh eggs (chicken & duck), veggies (cucs, broccoli, cabbage, celery, zucchini, mini pumpkins & more), baking from the Hurkett Community Centre, jams and much more. This is the best time of the year!

The Hurkett Community Centre just dropped off some baking! Cookies, artisan breads, focaccia buns, and cheddar zucchini buns.
All proceeds support capital improvements at the Hall.

We have cucumbers!
Lots of slicers and bread & butter sized. $8/3 L basket. I just put 9 baskets in the farm stand.
Also have lots of larger sized for grinding up for relish.
We have a waiting list for dill sized, but should have some available towards the end of next week.
Lots of flowers on the plants and the bees are really busy pollinating all the future cucumbers.
