So..... We have some great news to share!
The Local Services Board of Hurkett was successful in their funding application to Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for capital upgrades to the Hurkett Community Centre as well as the Hurkett Fire Department. This $185,000 grant will upgrade a number of items at the Community Centre including a steel roof, new septic system, new energy efficient lighting, water treatment system and a new well. Both the Hall and the Fire Department will be getting backup generators as we're designated as the local emergency centre.
We are super excited about the investment the province has made.
We'd also like to take a moment to thank all the volunteers (past and present) that have contributed to both groups as their tireless contribution has positioned us to be able to support a grant of this size.
An official announcement will be made by the Minister but as work will be starting shortly we thought we'd better update you!
