The training pen isn’t the first time the babies go outside, but they learn to eat solid food, drink water, and mingle with their new roomies. The mamas will move into the “dry sow” pen after this, so they have to get reacquainted after a few weeks apart.

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. We had loaded up 8 pigs to go to the butcher but an hour after we finished we got a call, and our appointment was rescheduled. So those 8 had to be unloaded again until another day. Camera credit goes to the 10 year old!

Every pastured pig has to start somewhere! In this pen, they learn about the sun and wind after being in the barn for the first week of their life. They also learn about electric fences so that when they go out into the real pasture, they know where the boundaries are! farmlife
