There is a silent strength in a female that just goes out and does her job day in and day out. Our purebred herd is held to the exact same standard as this commercial, Shorthorn influence cow. If they can’t hold their ground on pasture without being pampered, they don't stay.

You know those cows you find yourself keeping a close eye on? Every single year, this young cow comes out and outperforms our expectations.

Stemming from a cow line we originally developed off a solid Limousin female, she just plain works. Plenty of milk, docile disposition, great mothering instincts, and calves unassisted every time. Simply put; she is a cow that gets it done.

Around here, those are the exact kinds of females that thrive. Reliable, trouble-free cows that pull their weight. That’s what we mean by real cattle, real results. We couldn't be happier with how this cow family is working out in our herd.

Redefining the standard.

Our family has been breeding purebred cattle for over 50 years. We know what works, what lasts, and what the commercial industry demands because we run our own cattle in a strict commercial environment.

That’s why we started crossing our Shorthorn cattle with Limousin genetics years ago. The goal with these Shorthorn Plus cattle was clear from day one: infuse more power, higher carcass yield, and unmatched herd-bull masculinity back into the genetics.

Our goal isn’t to change the breed in its entirety, it’s to add to it. We aren't trying to force our genetics on anyone; we simply want to provide a distinct option for commercial producers who just want a little more oomph in their cattle base.

We've been quietly breeding up this program, and we have a few that will officially hit the purebred books soon.

He looks like a bull.

Bringing real herd-bull masculinity back into the breed is something we've been pushing hard for, and this calf is heading in that exact direction. He continues to develop well out on grass, masculine in his front third, smooth and fluid when he moves, and carrying plenty of testicular development early on.

We're excited to see how he shapes up for the bull pen this fall.

Good genetics take time.

There are no shortcuts or quick fixes in the cattle business. Building a predictable, functional herd means playing the long game. It takes years of strict culling, evaluating feet, and selecting for maternal efficiency to get the right results.

We don't hurry the process, because we want to make sure our cattle are built to last when they go to work for you.

Thriving on native grass.

Good cattle management starts with the soil. Our pasture management ensures our herd can thrive on the native pasture north of Kinsella, AB, keeping cows in strong working condition without shortcuts.

Tag 741 is a prime example of that longevity. She’s a 2017 model from a package of 30 Shorthorn-influence bred heifers we purchased many years ago from Allan Greenwood in Sangudo, AB. They turned into some of the best damn producers we’ve owned.

We hold our purebred herd to this exact same commercial standard. If they can't thrive and last in the real world, they don't stay.
