Lingley Livestock is a purebred Limousin and Shorthorn cattle operation located in Irma, Alberta, Canada. We offer both purebred and fullbloods Limousin and Shorthorn genetics. Each year we offer a select group of yearling and two year old bulls for sale. We select for performance, carcass yield, carcass quality, udder quality, temperament and proper foot structure. We’re excited to share a new addition to the Lingley Livestock herd!

We recently purchased the runner-up high seller in the Northline & Pugh Farms Summer Female Sale from Northline Farms out of Ardrossan, AB. This twin heifer calf, raised by a first-calver, is already showing a lot of promise. As we continue to slowly and intentionally build our Angus herd, adding females of this caliber makes complete sense for our program.

It’s always a pleasure to support the Schneider family. Good, honest people raising cattle made right for the times. A huge congratulations to both Pugh Farms and Northline Farms for an incredible open house and successful sale!

When it comes to crossbreeding, the Shorthorn breed’s greatest superpower is what it delivers to the replacement pen.

Incorporating Shorthorn genetics into your herd injects three non-negotiables every commercial producer needs: unmatched milking ability, high fertility, and quiet docility. You get exceptional milk production and udder quality to pull maximum weight out of a calf, females that settle early and stay on a tight calving window, and calmer cattle that are safer to work around.

Where the breed truly shines is in those resulting F1 females.

Retaining those F1 Shorthorn-cross heifers gives you the ultimate commercial mother cow. Turn around and breed those F1 females to a Charolais, Limousin, Simmental, Angus, or Hereford bull depending on your operational goals, and they just flat-out work. They hold their flesh, milk hard, and raise heavy, high-yielding calves no matter what terminal or maternal direction you take them.

The backbone of the operation.

There is a silent strength in a female that just goes out and does her job day in and day out. Our purebred herd is held to the exact same standard as this commercial, Shorthorn influence cow. If they can’t hold their ground on pasture without being pampered, they don't stay.

You know those cows you find yourself keeping a close eye on? Every single year, this young cow comes out and outperforms our expectations.

Stemming from a cow line we originally developed off a solid Limousin female, she just plain works. Plenty of milk, docile disposition, great mothering instincts, and calves unassisted every time. Simply put; she is a cow that gets it done.

Around here, those are the exact kinds of females that thrive. Reliable, trouble-free cows that pull their weight. That’s what we mean by real cattle, real results. We couldn't be happier with how this cow family is working out in our herd.

Redefining the standard.

Our family has been breeding purebred cattle for over 50 years. We know what works, what lasts, and what the commercial industry demands because we run our own cattle in a strict commercial environment.

That’s why we started crossing our Shorthorn cattle with Limousin genetics years ago. The goal with these Shorthorn Plus cattle was clear from day one: infuse more power, higher carcass yield, and unmatched herd-bull masculinity back into the genetics.

Our goal isn’t to change the breed in its entirety, it’s to add to it. We aren't trying to force our genetics on anyone; we simply want to provide a distinct option for commercial producers who just want a little more oomph in their cattle base.

We've been quietly breeding up this program, and we have a few that will officially hit the purebred books soon.
