Breed progression means nothing without land preservation.

We wrapped up a massive day of fencing to get our rotational grazing moving. We held the herd off our native pastures a little longer than usual this year, five-plus years of drought have taken a toll on the grass in our area, and giving it time to establish before the cows hit it is crucial.

At Lingley Livestock, pushing the Shorthorn breed forward goes hand-in-hand with being true stewards of the land. We work with the environment to ensure both our cattle and our pastures thrive for the long haul.

We sold two heifers to JH Bar Ranch near Sangudo, AB out of our fall online sale. They asked us to develop the heifers and get them bred for them. This little girl is pretty sweet! A sweet Memphis Blues heifer calf that was born in the middle of the night at -18. The first time momma did her job of calving unassisted and the calf was up and sucking by the time they found the calf in the morning.

A huge thank you to JH Bar Ranch for trusting our program!

Lingley's John Kinney 7K
Sire: 6B's Guardian ET
Dam: Matlock Dakara 53D

John Kinney doing John Kinney things. With his first daughter milking and raising a TANK of a bull calf, we keep hoping and crossing our fingers for heifer calves out of the big guy. The majority of the replacement pen is sired by "JK" and we are currently well under way of AIing them to our calving ease specialist, a Limousin bull.

He is quickly becoming our go to walking sire to create exceptionally correct, docile, BEAUTIFUL uddered females. Level quarters, perfect teat structure and placed wide, with a tight attachment. This doesn't come as a surprise being a natural born son of 53D, a cow we purchased from the Matlock program of Lloydminster SK.

He has a very correct claw shape and big foot under him and is putting that into his offspring.

He may be one of the younger calves but he's no slouch! He came out moderate and easy and hasn't looked back. This solid red bull calf is off of our very first Guardian daughter we produced and we have been thrilled with her performance record. Good uddered, docile, good footed, BW moderator and stout!

2L knocked it out of the park with this "Blue" calf! This time in a red roan package and registerable at 75%. Blue has been stamping his calves with lots of look, top, middle and HIP! True muscle shape that carries down low into his quarter. He's also proving to be a bull that will correct leg structure in a hurry!

We will continue to monitor the calves and impatiently wait for green grass and warm summer nights.

This little rascal has been doing nothing but growing since day 1! 75% Shorthorn blood, but due to his black coat, he's only able to be registered to 50%. He's an absolute tank and we are excited to see him continue to develop!

▪BT's LEGENDARY 156N▪
Diamond Creek Legendary 9K x Shadybrook Reflection 48G
Homo Polled - F94L - 41.5cm Scrotal

Beattie Farms produced an exceptional young herd sire and offered him up for sale. We quickly jumped on the opportunity to add him to our bull battery. Not only does he have a very outcross pedigree, but he has the phenotype to back it up. His dam, Shadybrook Reflection 48G, is a very productive young cow sired by Byland Wi******er 7M77, a bull that has been making some exceptionally good cattle. His sire, Diamond Creek Legendary 9K, is a very stout, long spined and attractive bull that is putting his mark in the Beattie Farms herd.

Legendary 156N is in the top 2% for WW and top 3% for YW. With a larger carcass and high gain rate becoming ever more important in todays cattle industry, we feel this guy is right on time for improving these traits.

Enter F94L; the profit gene. This will improve not only the tenderness but it increases the yield of primal cuts weights by up to 19%, increase retail beef yield by 8% and increase feed efficiency.

Hetro Black - Polled - F94L Carrier
Swagger x Lingley's First Kiss 11F

We were excited when he was born, intrigued as he grew and astonished as he matured. Having a bull that is not only easy on the eyes but has real numbers and genetic pieces that we've been trying to create, is great. But what about his progeny? Epic. That's the only way we can explain them! Stay tuned. This guy is making them right!
