The Miller and Grier families, spanning four generations, are recognized for their commitment to ecosystem enhancement and long-term sustainability at the historic Chilco Ranch. The award is sponsored by MNP LLP with support from the Beef Cattle Industry Development Fund and BCCA.

BC Forage Council is excited to be heading to Crystal Lake Ranch in Malakwa, BC for a Virtual Fencing Field Day, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Participants will be able to see virtual fencing in action, as well as explore other innovative tools and systems being used to enhance grazing and forage management at the ranch, including drone seeding and intercropping for forage production and biodiversity. Throughout the day we will hear from Jody Stump (RPF, PAg), Mike Witt (PAg, CCA) and Serena Black (PAg). Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

At the Guardians of the Grasslands Tour at Indian Gardens Ranch in Savona yesterday, ranch owner Bob Haywood Farmer explained how the lowland behind him is typically full of water in spring, providing water for his cows and a good barometer of how much (or little) moisture there is. “Im worried," he says, "that there is not enough moisture for regrowth on pasture that we grazed early this spring.”
