Cooking for One Just Isn’t Efficient

Dear Kamloops,

I have a confession to make. I’m a frugal foodie. I love to eat well, but I absolutely hate paying for it. As such, I have gotten used to spending hour upon hour everyday cooking meals for myself. My favourite foods take time to prepare properly. Have you ever made your own bread, just so that you could bake it into croutons for a homemade caesar salad? Or how about your own pizza dough? Did you know that it takes approximately 48 hours to properly ferment?

I used to cook like this on the daily...

Then I started to realize vicariously through friends who’d had kids, or started successful businesses, that I would not be able to continue cooking this way if I wanted to achieve all of my other goals in life. I was, after all, living with a friend in an old, cramped Vancouver apartment at the time, and working a boring job that was taking me nowhere. I knew that I needed to find a more efficient way to cook the meals that I wanted to eat, at the price point I was comfortable paying, but without the ridiculous time commitment.
