A Season in Flowers Subscription

The first subscription I am offering for 2027 is a monthly bouquet from May-September. This subscription allows you to enjoy all the offerings of what we can grow in Kamloops. You will receive one bouquet each month that features whatever is in its prime then! The bouquets will vary greatly in colour scheme and composition throughout the season. There is a total of 5 bouquets in this subscription.

After a couple of very challenging years of tulips and rising costs to grow them, I have made the difficult decision to not grow tulips in 2027. This means there won't be winter flowers (😕) and subscriptions will not get going until mid May. It does mean though that I can grow more of some other spring favourites.

Pick-up for the bouquets will be at Amplified Cafe on Mondays 8:30am-6pm and dates for pick up will be provided closer to the subscription starting.

Subscriptions will open to the general public on Wednesday October 28th.

2027 Subscriptions!

It's never too early to start dreaming about fresh flowers again! I have taken some time to think about my offerings for next season and wanted to let you know what to expect as I have had lots of people asking about sign-up 😊.

I will be honest, as life gets busier and the kids become more involved in sports and other activities, predicting my schedule almost a year in advance gets a little more challenging when trying to plan out subscriptions!

For 2027 I will be offering 3 subscriptions:
- Spring/Early Summer (May, June & Early July) - Seasonal (May-September)
- Late Season (most likely just August)

As always, I will be opening next year's subscriptions up to current subscribers first. If you were a 2026 subscriber, you can expect an email from me later this weekend with more details and purchasing info. Then I will open the subscriptions up to the public later next week.

I will do a couple more posts over the weekend outlining each subscription. Thanks once again to all of my 2026 subscribers and looking forward to more subscription bouquets in 2027!

A different kind of flower...
Through university and when my kids were little I crocheted A LOT! In recent years my projects have been quick hats here and there because I never seem to have time to complete bigger projects. I have been following for awhile and LOVE her beautiful crochet flowers. I was determined to make myself a sweater using her pattern. The goal was to have it done by the first of fall but September is crazy and I didn't get it finished for then but I got it done this past week (staying up later than I should have in the evenings!) And I am so happy with it!!
I used some yarn I had been saving for a special project from and as well as some black yarn from the depths of and my yarn chest.
So now the flower lady has a flower sweater and I feel like that it is the first but maybe not the last...

2026 is definitely going down as "season of the rose". It was not an easy growing year for my annual flowers but thank goodness for perennials who really brought it in the spring and filled in some gaps all season long. The one that surprised me the most were my roses! I decided to take a chance on roses, ordering some special varieties in the fall of 2020 for planting in 2021. They arrived in late spring just before the heat dome - the worst timing possible and I lost a few in the heat wave. Then came a couple hard winters...lost a couple more. Roses take about 3-5 years to become really established, but in all honesty I was starting to give up on them as they were not very productive and only producing short stems.
Then 2026 arrived...5 years in and they exploded! I had roses blooming starting in May and even though we have had some frosts, they are still blooming! It was the first year I was able to offer straight bunches and they were a staple in bouquets all season long!! There is nothing quite like the fragrance and beauty of a true garden rose.
Every tough growing season I really reflect on how to move forward knowing that weather extremes have become the new normal and weather is not very predictable from one season to the next. I have decided I need more perennials added to my gardens. They are an investment up front and it does take time for them to really produce, but they are able to 'weather the weather' a little more once established and they need less inputs after they establish as well. So yesterday, I converted another bed to be a permanent perennial bed. I have some things I know for sure I want in there but still considering the whole composition. No more roses for now, the 20 or so I have now are enough thorns for my liking right now!

Taking a moment this Thanksgiving weekend to thank all those who helped make all the magic happen with the flowers this season.
Big thanks to Dan and his staff for once again agreeing to be the primary pick-up location for bouquets. We are so lucky to be able to use this space and I know it makes the flowers much more accessible to many and helps me out a ton as well.
Thank-you to my mom, Barbara who helps harvest all season, allows me to use flowers and foliage from her yard as well and helps put all the subscription bouquets together.
Thank-you to my family who help with various and assorted chores throughout the season and are patient when we need to make a detour on the way somewhere to drop off flowers or when other things need to be put on hold while I finish an order or answer an email etc.
And of course thank-you to every single customer I had in 2026 - ultimately this venture is not possible without all of you! When I started, there were not a lot of other local growers selling flowers and now we have many great options for local flowers and I am always honoured when you choose my flowers to enjoy. I am so lucky and grateful to have so many customers who have been with me since the get go and I am always appreciative when someone new gives my flowers and subscriptions a try.

Well today, I officially have 2 kids in the double digits! While some of the groundwork for LBB was laid prior to, it really became a reality during my mat leave with my youngest so its been an amazing decade of nurturing children and gardens and watching both blossom.
It looks like we will be getting frost this weekend which will officially close the fresh flower season. I will be picking anything I can tomorrow and Friday morning and will make bouquets and will post any I have available by mid-morning Friday. Having said that, if you are interested in a bouquet, let me know and I can make a list and contact people when I know what I have.
Then it will be time to really get to work on getting the gardens put away for winter and getting some beds prepped for spring planting. I know I will definitely savour this last harvest of blooms though as it will be 9 or 10 months before we see fresh dahlias again!

September was such a whirlwind - summer already feels like so long ago...October is here and life hasn't slowed down yet and I feel behind in the gardens. However, almost all of the flowers are now pulled so it is just the dahlias still standing. They too will need to be dug and divided soon but there are a few other priorities to get too first and they are still putting on quite a show.
As rhe westher cools the colours of the dahlias change and I find they almost have a metallic luster about them during their finale - they are hard to beat!
I have a few dahlia bunches mixed with Eucalyptus for this week. They will be available at Amplified Tuesday 8:30am-6pm.
I have a couple of special orders for Thanksgiving weekend, I might have enough dahlias to do an extra bouquet or two. These would be big harvest bouquets of dahlias, hydrangea and few other fall perennials mixed in.

The season is quickly winding down and its time for me to start the big garden clean up. So I have what will be some of the last mixed bouquets for this year available for pick-up at Amplified Tuesday Sept 29th 830am-6pm! Pick-up can also be arranged for LBB on Wednesday morning.
I also have a couple of straight dahlia bunches available. I will continue to have dahlias for a couple more weeks.

I was putting together some bouquets for a special order today and had some extra flowers so made a few more bouquets! They will be available at Amplified on Friday 10:30am-5pm or pick-up at LBB can be arranged for Friday morning as well.

The temps are dropping so we need to enjoy these flowers before the frost comes!

Hello Fall...After a week of beautiful warm summer like days, the winds arrived this evening and appear to be blowing in much cooler weather along with much needed rain later this week. As much as I love warm days, I am ready for some cozy sweaters, mugs of tea and lots of pumpkin with a bit of spice!

Walking through the gardens yesterday, I saw some of my spring faves like snapdragons and foxgloves sending up one more big flush of blooms - they are reacting to the shorter days and will be happy for cooler temps. The roses have been amazing this year and while they are now focusing on new growth, there are still some buds emerging. The dahlias and cosmos are covered in buds and putting on quite a show. Its actually quite amazing to see how many blooms there are still are in tired gardens.

These cooler temps will really slow the blooms down but I will continue to harvest when I can.

I anticipate having a few bouquets next week and then leading up to Thanksgiving, I think we will have a sale with the last of the pumpkins, some harvest bouquets and eucalyptus so stay tuned for details on that.

Right now the current goals are to get everyone in the house back to good health and keep up with a very busy sports schedule this week. Hope you are all enjoying a cozy first evening of fall!
