Ranunculus & Rose Bunches
https://www.littlebluebarn.ca/products/spring

I was able to harvest and restock the bouquets for drop at Amplified Monday.

These might just be my favourite bouquets of the year so far and they should have great fragrance and vase life!

The Mock Orange is beautiful right now so that adds some whimsy and fun to these otherwise very elegant bouquets!

Order on the website by 730am Monday and they will be available for pick-up at Amplified 8:30am-6pm

These will most likely be the last ranunculus bouquets of the season as the rest of the ranunculus will head into subscription bouquets!

Thanks to everyone who grabbed a bouquet over the last week!

Typically, I think of my flowers as being pretty whimsy and cottage type flowers but buckets of garden roses and ranunculus just hit a little differently!

The ranunculus bouquets got snatched up pretty quickly and I knew they would as they have been a fan favourite from the get go and I have missed not picking buckets of them this year too ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ.

The roses are slowing down but still pumping out blooms and I did another harvest yesterday. I have some rose bouquets available for Monday at Amplified and MIGHT have a couple more ranunculus bouquets too, we will see after I make bouquets later today. Then starting tomorrow I am back to picking for subscriptions and probably won't have many Grab n Grow bouquets for the next few weeks.

I planted a lot of seeds yesterday and was happy to then get some rain on them last night. Hoping today to get on top of some weeding as the weeds have really been flourishing as of late ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Helping the kids on the food side of things too this weekend and will have some updates on that soon too.

First a bike ride though and then back in the gardens ๐Ÿ™‚

WEEKEND FLOWERS

I made some more rose bouquets and some ranunculus bouquets today and they will be available all weekend! I will be dropping off at Amplifed Cafe for 10am Saturday, but pick up can also be arranged in Barnhartvale later in the day on Saturday and Sunday.

These will probably be the only ranunculus bouquets outside of the subscriptions this year so grab them while you can!

Pretty well all the flowers will be headed to subscriptions over the next 3 weeks so if you want to enjoy some more spring flowers before we get to summer, grab a bunch this weekend!

Bouquets can be purchased here https://www.littlebluebarn.ca/collections/grab-n-go-flowers and then please message me if you would like arrange pick up in Barnhartvale.

UPDATE: Rose Bouquets now on the website to order for this weekend!

Ohhhh the roses, I actually can't get enough of them this year (my hands and arms are taking a beating with puppy teeth and rose thorns though๐Ÿ˜œ).

Its been a very different season for me this year after making the intentional decision to grow less flowers, more food and just focus on subscriptions. I knew by the new year we would be getting a puppy at some point between May and July and that that alone would really cut into my time in the gardens. The one thing with the early spring was that I was able to do a lot before we got little miss Wren. Now, I am behind on planting and wedding but that's ok, it will get done. I always find this time of year in the gardens a challenge when I have a lot of growing work to do but there is also daily harvesting and bouquet making to be done.

So having said all of that, I am hoping to make some bouquets tonight or tomorrow morning (We shall see which Wrenny Penny cooperates best with!) and will post them for the weekend and then hoping to fit lots of planting, weeding and trellising into the weekend along with all the other parts of life โค๏ธ๐Ÿคช

Have you ever had the opportunity to bury your nose in a garden rose? It is the quintessential rose fragrance. These roses are full of character and open into big beautiful, fluffy blooms that are hard to beat.

I have been growing roses in the cut flower beds for 5 years and there have been some real ups and downs with them. I have been able to use them in design work here and there but this is the first season where they are truly hitting maturity and while the weather has been hard on some spring crops, it has been wonderful for the roses.

So, for the first time ever, I am getting to share some bouquets that truly feature roses! These are not long lived flowers in the vase but they are stunning and make any room smell delightful amd truly there just isn't anything quite like them. Check my stories for more pictures.

I have a few on the online store that will be ready for pick up at Amplifed on Wednesday and may have more later this week. You will also find some ranunculus, anemones and a few other spring beauties popped into these bouquets along with spring greenery.

Don't miss the beauties!!!๐ŸŒน๐Ÿฅ€

Whew, we made it through May! I think all parents agree, May just might be the busiest month of the year family wise and its busy in the gardens too. This year we decided to add a puppy into the mix at the beginning of May which added to the chaos but has also been a whole lot of fun.

So much of the month has been sports practices, track meets, making sure everyone is fed, getting everyone healthy from a bad bug and puppy training. Normally May is a big month in the gardens but the early heat wave allowed me to do a lot of May tasks early which was helpful.

The harvests have been trickling in and they always start to become more abundant in June. I love my busy life and I wouldnt change it for the world. I have to say though, I do enjoy my quiet moments in the gardens in the mornings and evenings. June is a busy month too as school and Spring activities wrap up. In the gardens, harvesting picks up, weeding is at a peak and there is still a lot of planting to do.

I had to bring one of the kids for a sports trip in Whistler this weekend and I had a very rare 48 hours of just me. I will be honest, it felt pretty weird and unusual but I had the chance to do some yoga, run, bike, eat some good food, shop and recharge for the final push of the school year. It's hard for me to not be productive but I have also learned over the years, some down time and time to recharge is pretty important.

Hope you all had a good weekend. June will bring much more colour to the feed!

I am definitely grieving right now...I should be harvesting buckets of big, fluffy, perfect ranunculus right now and I am not. My whole first planting, which is also my biggest, was wiped out by a fungal disease ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Luckily my smaller second planting survived but the early heat wave knocked them back. They are starting to bloom so there will be ranunculus but not like usual. Its a tough one because ranunculus just might be my favourite crop and to be honest this spring has been hard on all the spring flowers, but its also given the heat loving flowers a fantastic start.

Luckily, many of my peony plants have now reached maturity and are pumping out the blooms! The irises have also been highly productive and after a mild winter my garden roses are looking like they are going to have an absolute bumper crop!! For the first time ever, I might be able to offer some garden roses bunches which would honestly be amazing because they really are something special! We shall see how the next week goes.

So, it really is a Spring to celebrate the perennial gardens and the beauty and reliability they have to offer. While I think I have decided to not grow field tulips next year, ranunculus corms are already ordered and I am sure they will be back in full force next season!

Woodland Inspired Bouquets.

There is a little sweet spot of time.in the gardens when the annuals are not yet blooming but the spring perennials are having a moment and this is it. I picked the first round of peonies over the last week and the bearded irises (one of the most underrated cut flowers in my opinion) are about to put on a show. These bouquets have a lot of green freshness but they also have some many delicate elements that really add charm. Give them a couple days in the vase and the peonies and irises will burst open and it will be quite a show!

I had just a couple extra of these after I finished making subscription bouquets, so if you would like one, grab one on the online store and pick it up at Amplified tomorrow (Tuesday).

Yesterday the kids ans I were busy planting, planting, planting, feels good to have most of the garden beds filled now.

Hope you all had a good weekend and are ready for a short week!

Well the rain could not have come at a better time this week!! Had we continued to have the temperatures we had been having and no access to water, I am really not sure how the gardens would have faired. Its also been nice to see the grass in the grasslands beyond our fence greening up since that soaking as well as they were already starting to brown ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. So nice to have gentle rain falling again as I write this post, hoping it continues all day.
With the water issues this week, the kids got 2 extra days at home with the new puppy, so nobody was too sad about that!
It's the time of year in the gardens that I struggle with a bit, trying to get new transplants in and settled with everchanging weather conditions and cutworms (while they are around they don't seem too bad this year ๐Ÿคž). Some things are striving and some things are taking their time. I am hoping to get a lot more transplanted and direct seeded over the next couple of days.
The perennial gardens are flourishing and to be honest I have missed picking some things that I wasn't expecting to bloom so early, it is always hard to keep up with harvesting when I am prepping and planting at the same time. Having said that the first round of peonies and irises have been coming in hot all week so I am making subscription bouquets this weekend and will probably have a few extra bouquets for next week. I will post once I know how many extras I will have!
For now catching up on some inside chores that have been neglected for a couple weeks and having an extra cup of coffee as it has been some very early morning training sessions with Wren all week ๐Ÿฅด, and then it will be onto garden work and track and roller ski practices with the kids, and a whole lot of puppy time!!
Enjoy your long weekend everyone!

Welcome to the family sweet little Wren! We were all heartbroken last winter when we lost our wonderful boy Arlo to epilepsy. When we made the decision to get another dog we knew we wanted to get another Springer as Arlo truly made us love the breed.

We were very lucky to find Springers of Green Gables and their wonderful dogs. One of their Mama's, Raven, especially captured us and long story short, the cards played out in our favour and we were able to adopt one of her darling puppies.

While there is no doubt she has big paws to fill, we are smitten already and it feels so good to have a dog in the house and garden again. Looking forward to many adventures with our little Wrenny Penny โค๏ธ
