Change of Plans for Our Turkeys! 🦃

Well… our turkeys have decided they aren’t interested in waiting until Thanksgiving! They are getting WAY too big, so we've had to change our plans.

Our Orlop Bronze turkeys will be heading off to be processed this Thursday, which means they’ll be ready and going into the freezer Friday.

Want a fresh farm-raised turkey for this weekend?
Send us a message and reserve yours! We’ll have them available for pickup once they’re back from processing.

And don't worry — we’ll still have frozen turkeys available for Thanksgiving, so you can get your holiday turkey from Pura Vida Farm.

Fresh Farm-Raised Turkeys Are Coming! 🦃

We chose Orlop Bronze turkeys because they’re a slower-growing, active breed that loves to roam, forage, scratch, and explore. Unlike the broad-breasted white turkeys commonly raised for commercial production, Bronze turkeys are naturally active and well suited to life outdoors.

Our turkeys spend their days outdoors in a poultry fence that we regularly move to different areas of the farm. This gives them fresh ground to explore and forage while allowing us to manage their pasture responsibly. They enjoy grass, bugs, and whatever else they can find, along with supplemental feed to ensure they receive the nutrition they need.

And yes… we will have LARGE turkeys available! 🦃 Perfect if you're feeding a crowd this Thanksgiving!

Their slower growth and active lifestyle produce a flavourful, farm-raised turkey that we're proud to put on your table.

Fresh from the farm and ready for your table! 🐔🌿

Our Rustic Ranger chickens, processed yesterday, are now available for purchase. They are fresh now but will be frozen this afternoon.

When we decided to raise meat birds, we chose Rustic Rangers because they are slower-growing, active birds that love to roam. They're natural foragers, spending their days scratching through the grass, hunting for bugs, and enjoying everything nature has to offer.

Their diet is supplemented with high-quality feed to ensure they receive balanced nutrition while living on pasture, soaking up the sunshine, and foraging the land. The result? Meet Donald & Daffy, our adorable Call Ducks!

Donald and Daffy were hatched right here on our farm. Kieffer had been told he was absolutely not allowed to buy me any more animals for my birthday... so he technically listened and gave me duck hatching eggs instead. 😂

We hatched Donald and Daffy ourselves, and they've been running the farm ever since. You'll usually find them splashing around in the turtle pool, chasing the dogs (who are far less amused than they are), following me from chore to chore like tiny feathered supervisors, and every evening just before dusk, they make a few ceremonial laps around the farm before calling it a night.

Many people choose to clip their ducks' wings so they can't fly away. Here at Pura Vida Farm, we believe our animals should be free to be exactly as nature intended. Donald and Daffy may decide to fly off on their next big adventure one day—but for now, we're pretty happy they've chosen us as their home. ❤️

Yesterday was truss day, and the barn is really starting to come together! A huge thank you to Ken and Bryon and to our awesome kiddos, Nolan and Kieffer, for all their hard work and help. We couldn’t have done it without you!

We’ve had a low supply of eggs at our egg stand the last few weeks. It took us a bit, but we finally figured out where a few of our hens were hiding their eggs! 🥚🐔

Apparently, the round bale feeder is the preferred nesting spot over the nice cozy laying boxes we built for them. At least the mystery is solved… and hopefully the egg supply will be back to normal soon! 😂

We have a special visitor staying with us for a few months — meet Charles! ❤️

We also call him “Scott Baio” because, apparently, he’s the one in charge around here. He’s a bit of a sweetheart… from a respectful distance. He loves head scratches and spends most of his days relaxing under the pergola, keeping an eye on everything.

We’re already going to miss him when he moves on 🐾
