Garlic Scapes. It's a short season for them and you'll find them at many farmers booths over the next few weeks. Add them to anything you'd like for a mild garlic flavor. Our favorite is to make a pesto with them. Get them while you can.

Garlic scapes, cilantro, arugula, lettuce mix, Swiss Chard, rhubarb, our first beans, basil plants, and the last of our butter lettuce, leaf lettuce and mini romaine.

Rhubarb! It's the season for your favorite rhubarb treats. At Firefly Farm we have four different varieties. Some are short, some are long, some skinny and some almost as fat as my arm.

I always hear people say that they think food at the farmers market is more expensive than in the store. If you truly compare, you'll find that is not true. First of all you'll be getting a fresher product. Which means if stored properly, it should last longer, which will save money. Before I set my price for produce I always go to the store first to see what prices are, what you get for that price and the quality of the product. So, when I see a head of limp organic lettuce at half the size in the store I am pretty confident that my $5 head of lettuce is a better quality product and a better value. There are so many fantastic local farmers working hard to bring their best to the market each week. And that's a bonus too. You'll get to know the person who actually grows your food. You can ask us questions about what we have and how it's grown and we always do our best to let you know about it.
Haven't shopped at the market yet? Give it a try, you might find the extra effort is worth it.

Firefly Farm May update.
Take a swipe through to see the progress of some of the things you've been asking about. These aren't quite ready yet, but it won't be too much longer.
May is a busy time on the farm and we're really looking forward to getting the last of the plants into the ground.

Getting back to the market has made things even busier than usual, but it's been really nice to see everyone again. And starting to receive income from the past few months of work is great.

Keep an eye on our page for all the items coming to the market each week. I usually post every Friday.
