Ontario Maple Syrup

Ontario Maple Syrup The Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association (OMSPA) is a producer based organization formed in 1966 to represent maple syrup producers across the province.

As a producer organization we are committed to promoting the production of high quality maple products using the best available management practices. We represent a long history of sugar making in the province and are proud to carry on with the traditions associated with one of nature’s greatest natural sweeteners – the making of maple syrup when the sap begins to flow. OMSPA is the official voice

of sugar makers in the province. We currently represent “sugar makers” from all across the province, who are committed to producing a high quality product for consumers to enjoy. Our members are involved with a wide range of activities organized at the provincial level or through one of our 11 local chapters located across the maple producing areas of the province. We also work closely with other organizations and levels of government to promote and protect the maple industry in Ontario. OMSPA is an active member of the International Maple Syrup Institute.

Did you know that maple trees don't get "tapped out"?

A healthy sugar maple tree can be tapped year after year for decades without being harmed, as long as the proper practices are followed. Maple producers ensure that they only tap mature trees and they use a limited number of taps based on the tree's size, ensuring it stays strong and healthy.

Each spring, when a small hole is drilled into the tree to collect sap, the tree responds naturally by sealing off that area and beginning the healing process. By the next season, it’s ready to be tapped again in a new spot. This careful cycle allows the tree to continue growing and thriving while still producing sap.

In places like Ontario, maple syrup production is built on generations of knowledge and respect for the forest. Because the trees aren’t cut down or damaged in the process, maple syrup is considered one of the most sustainable and renewable sweeteners in the world, literally harvested from living trees that keep giving year after year.

Even the U.S. can tell what REAL maple syrup tastes like… 🇨🇦

A recent article out of the States is highlighting Costco’s Kirkland maple syrup, and once again, it points straight to Canada as the source of the good stuff.

That’s because when it comes to maple syrup, there’s no substitute for the real thing.

But here in Ontario, we know something even better:
👉 The best maple syrup doesn’t come from a big box store
👉 It comes straight from local sugarbushes and family producers

When you buy local, you’re not just getting incredible flavour, you’re supporting Ontario producers, traditions, and generations of maple expertise.

So yes… even America recognizes real maple syrup.
But we’re lucky enough to have it right here at home ❤️

🔗 Read the article:

Costco's Kirkland Signature brand is pure organic maple syrup. It comes from syrup makers in Quebec, which produces 90% of Canada's syrup.

Recent CBC news from Quebec regarding maple syrup on grocery shelves containing 50% cane sugar reminds Ontario maple product consumers to understand the source of their purchase.

Maple syrup products offered for sale by members of the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers' Association (OMSPA) are crafted with tradition, care and due diligence from tree to table. Any products labelled with the "Sweet Ontario" label contain only 100% pure Ontario maple syrup.

OMSPA promotes the highest standards of education, stewardship and production processes within our membership and advocates on behalf of those members to foster a confident connection between our producers and consumers.

We encourage our consumers to check containers for the Sweet Ontario logo, the OMSPA logo, the producer's information and a Lot/Batch code.

We thank you for your continued support.
