Red Gate Sporthorses Breeding and training quality sporthorses (primarily Holsteiner, Hanoverian, Trakehner bloodlines) She has also competed through Third level dressage.

Red Gate Sporthorses is operated by the mother-daughter team of Vicki Foerster and Angel Mackenzie. Originally based in Victoria, B.C., we moved to the area of Kemptville, Ontario, in 2000, and have been progressively expanding our 18-acre facility that now includes a 60’ x 130’ indoor arena and two barns with 15 stalls. Angel actively competes our horses in the sport of eventing and dressage, having competed several horses to the Preliminary and Intermediate/CIC** (now CIC***) level. Angel takes a particular interest in starting and producing the horses with a focus on our homebreds. Angel has recently completed a PhD in Experimental Psychology. Our Breeding Philosophy:

Using horses with proven sport pedigrees, primarily of Hanoverian, Holsteiner, and Trakehner lines, we strive to breed rideable, athletic horses with an emphasis on dressage and eventing. We aim to breed horses that we want to ride – and we hope that you will want to ride them too! From time to time, we have high quality horses for sale including foals, prospects and experienced competition horses.

2024 Registered German Oldenburg gelding. He is tall: nearly 16.2 at 30 months, he will finish over 17 hands. He has three good gaits; a bold, lovable personality; and just the right amount of sensitivity.

Sire Ferdeaux (Bordeaux/Ferro) represented the KWPN at the World Breeding Championships for Young Horses twice, and was successful through FEI small tour.

Dam Shephora (Shakespeare RSF/Gold Luck/Donnerhall) is from the prestigious Rolling Stone Farm breeding program. Shephora was training at Third level until an injury sustained as a foal limited her promising career. Her maternal half sister, Whuthering Heights, competed through Prix St George.

Yesterday we welcomed Hanoverian inspectors, Maren Schlender and Ursula Hosking for an on-farm Candian Hanoverian foal inspection.

Our filly Wymbledon RGS ("Venus", Wynton/Bugatti Hilltop) received a Gold Medal! Venus was praised for her type, correct conformation, and particularly the quality of her walk and canter.

Fata Morgana RGS ("Furie", Fidertanz/Shakespeare RSF) was too busy cavorting around to show herself optimally, but she also received very positive feedback on her beautiful type and pretty head and neck, correct hind leg, and the quality of her trot. The inspectors were very positive about the choice of stallions for the mares and subsequent improvement in the foals, which is always excellent feedback for a breeder.

Bred by the RCMP and was born on our farm so has only had one owner her whole life.

Bijou has had 4 foals, all by Wynton. She will remain with us until her 2026 filly is weaned (board paid) in December.

Bijou was started under saddle as a 4 year old but was sadly injured in the field which limited her career under saddle. Although she is sound and could have continued her career under saddle, we elected to breed her instead of putting her back under saddle. Her dam, Fontana, received exceptional Mare Performance Test scores in Germany (9s for walk, trot, and character; 8s for canter and rideability; and even 7s for jumping! Overall 8.16) and produced many offspring for the RCMP Musical Ride - a testament to the excellent rideability of this mare line! One of Fontana's daughters was produced through Prix St Georges by her amateur owner. Fontana's son pulled the carriage that King Charles rode in during his recent visit to Ottawa.

Meet "Wymbledon RGS" aka Venus!

It has been a busy few days so I am late on this announcement, but Bijou ("Bohème" - Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern) delivered this adorable filly by Wynton early (3:30 am) Saturday morning! I was in the middle of two days of scribing at the Ottawa Dressage Festival and attending the OEA cross country clinic on Sunday at Stevens Creek Farm, so it has been an eventful weekend! This is our fourth full sibling by Wynton out of Bijou, and I was so delighted to get a filly. The white markings were an extra delightful surprise!

It was a great start to the season for my best girl Voodoo ("Santeria RGS", 2015 Hanoverian mare - Sir Gregory/Federweisser) at the Ottawa Spring horse trials at Wesley Clover Parks! We finished 2nd in the Open/Sr EV90 division, with 30.5 (69.5%) in dressage and then double clear stadium and cross country. 🥰

This past weekend, our homebred Stella ("Interstellar RGS" - 2021 Canadian Sporthorse mare, Lestat/Indoctro) made her dressage debut with owner and rider, Kelsy Smith! The pair scored 74% for a very respectable first dressage performance at Training level!

Kelsy has done a great job producing Stella, who made her way out to her life on the west coast as a weanling. Stella has been eye catching from the day she was born and I've been really looking forward to seeing her in the show ring. Great job, team! 🥰

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our first foal of 2026!

Hanoverian filly by Fidertanz out of Shephora (Shakespeare RSF/Gold Luck).

This lovely, typey filly had a smooth arrival on Mother's Day! To say that I am pleased that we managed to get not only a healthy foal but a filly from this cross is an understatement 🥰
