Mayor Andrew Poirier is the only candidate that filed for mayor in this year’s Kenora election. Poirier has been mayor since 2022, and before that served a total of ten years as a councillor. He's now set to be acclaimed.

Thirteen candidates have filed to run for the six councillor-at-large positions:

There are three spots for trustees at the Keewatin Patricia District School Board but only one candidate in Dave Cornish.

Five are to be elected for the Kenora Catholic District School Board trustee and there are exactly five candidates set to be acclaimed in Teresa Gallik, Marie Lundin, Paul Landry, Derek Favreau, and Irene Richards.

No one has filed to run for the French public and catholic boards, for which there are each one to be elected.

The candidate list will not be official until each candidacy is certified on Monday, Aug. 24.

Nominations for the 2026 municipal election across Ontario opened on May 1 and closed on Friday, Aug. 21.

Election day is Monday, Oct. 26.

UPDATE (Aug 22, 9:35 a.m. CDT): Two individuals were taken into custody following an investigation into a disturbance on Friday August 21, 2026 at the Dryden Fairgrounds. OPP thanks members of the public who provided police with information. There is no threat to public safety. ^pia

Update: Three Kenora men are facing charges after an aggravated assault investigation led police to execute search warrants at a Storm Bay Road residence and seize co***ne, currency, weapons and items police say are consistent with drug trafficking.

Members of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and Community Street Crime Unit, with assistance from the Kenora OPP Detachment, made the arrests following an incident reported on July 7, 2026.

Police say officers arrested three males in connection with an aggravated assault call. As part of the investigation, search warrants were later executed at a residence on Storm Bay Road.

The search resulted in the seizure of approximately 167 grams of co***ne, Canadian and U.S. currency, weapons and other items police allege are consistent with drug trafficking.�The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $16,800.

Charges laid against three Kenora men

Scott Fleisher, 29, of Kenora, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault.

Matthew Fleisher, 26, of Kenora, and Cameron Fleisher, 26, of Kenora, have each been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — co***ne, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, aggravated assault and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Police say Matthew Fleisher and Cameron Fleisher are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date. The police information provided did not specify a release status for Scott Fleisher.

Three Kenora men are facing charges after an aggravated assault investigation led police to seize co***ne, weapons and cash.

OPP say officers arrested three men on July 7 2026 in connection with an aggravated assault call in Kenora.

Police say search warrants were later carried out at a home on Storm Bay Road.

The search led to the seizure of 167 grams of co***ne, Canadian and U.S. cash, weapons and other items police say were connected to drug trafficking.

OPP estimate the drugs have a street value of about $16,800.

A 29-year-old Kenora man has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Two 26-year-old Kenora men are facing several charges, including possession of co***ne for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, aggravated assault, uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm and weapons offences.

OPP say the two 26-year-olds are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Kenora court at a later date.
