Muscat is always one of the first BIG harvest days(s) at our little crush pad - we’ve tweaked some processes and added some new equipment this year to help with how…analog everything feels, haha!

Special to share this moment with my uncle Mike, just diving right in and getting after it!

We have a little ferment going for a bubble, and also another round of a skin contact ferment to add some texture to our cellar.

Arms are already sore, clothes are sticky, it’s definitely harvest!

What started as an emergency 2024 wine is now one of our mainstay wines here at Bella - “Ode to Sappho” sparkling Foch traditional method.

Inspired by finding love no matter what, embracing our shadow selves, and knowing that life, happiness, and wine is for everybody and all.

So thrilled to get to make this beauty again this year despite another full year of new challenges both emotional and physical.

A year ago all this was, was a promise.

I am convinced that delusion & discipline are a dangerous combination.

You have to be delusional enough to believe in something before there’s evidence it’s going to work: the winery before the walls, the bottle before the wine, the future before any proof you’ll get there.

You won’t notice much while you’re inside the change - day to day, problems, set backs. Then, graceful moments of realization of the actual distance covered.

Discipline is a working progress, some days are absolute s**t. But you have to chisel away at it. Each fragment and shard falling off the present day, shaping your baseline for the next.

You have to shape the somewhere for your impossible to go.
Again and again.

Stay delusional, then get discipline to prove yourself right. Nobody can take that from you even if you fail.

Anyways, Chardonnay on Wednesday. Let the Autumn games begin.

Something that has slowly been taking shape over the last 4 years since our purchase of “All the Pretty Horses” Vineyard is now a tangible, formed reality.

After years of planting, re-planting, farming and waiting, the FIRST GRAPES from our project are in the cellar, with the other picks on the whiteboard.

Ursa & Bella are crafting our small collection of Estate wines made in Bella’s crisp sparkling style, with tandem wines made in Ursa’s textural magic.

Some wines will be widely available.
Some will be extremely limited.
And…

Some may never see a general release.

Our 2027 Wine Club will be the first place we share them.

We’re going to reveal a little more over the coming months, but for now consider this the first hint:

November 15th.

Busy? Us? Never. Just bottling NEW wines, making a wine already for this harvest, netting the vineyard, sampling, and making room for all the wine we need to make this year, etc.

IT. IS. ON.

We also have our 🌞 SUMMER SALE 🌞 ending on September 1st, and we need to make room in the cellar for all the new wines!

We will donate $10 from every pack sold in the last dog days of Summer to:

B.C. WINE has been through a lot and we are still here, and are going to do our best to continue our craft in this fragile place we call home. This harvest means so much to us and your support isn’t unnoticed ❤️🙏🏼

BC is one of the smallest towns I know (haha), we are stronger together.

Grapes in a bucket. Feels like it’s so much more, very bittersweet as we simultaneously watch our wine fam in Summerland continue to be impacted by the disaster last week. Breaks our hearts, truly.

Preparing to offer and help with the imminent and mandatory harvest for them in any way as well - our doors are open and what’s mine is yours.

B.C. is full of some of toughest, badass wine people I’ve ever met and they are all so good at this. They move forward, pick it up again, lean on the community, then come out with bangers amidst such obstacles.

The last six years are proof of this.

Grapes in a bucket, so simple. But it’s not. It’s far from not even on normal years. Yet still, I have faith our buddies will mitigate this and wow you next year, like always.

Support for families in Summerland is incredibly important right now as our community rallies together. As re-entry will take time, continued support is needed. Mamas for Mamas has been doing an excellent job and is a great option for your support. Also, donations of school supplies are a great idea, as some families may have more time before re-entry.

Our hearts are with Summerland. As the weeks unfold and we assess their needs, we will do what we do best here: pivot & rally.

When families are forced from their homes by wildfire, we step up. And once again, our community has met that need with incredible generosity, determination, and heart.

This my fifth smoked out harvest. For context that is 5/12 career vintages with ash falling.
Almost half. Actually half.

I’m late to the wine game, I think. Unknowingly enthusiastic about a venture that was over before it started. The event horizon being crossed long ago - how could we have known?
Easily, and we did.
We did know.

I feel like a tree.
My feet so deeply rooted in time and place.
Despite my numerous limbs and strength I lack the ability to uproot myself.
I guess I wait.
Wait for somebody to come cut me down (finally)
Wait for the inferno to erase me as I stand my ground
Wait to fall from the sky, in pieces.

The first vintage after 4 years rebuilding from the freeze and it looks like this. I can just laugh. Crying wastes moisture.

I wish I could tell the vineyards that I tried.

Looks like our first pick will be the MARQUETTE at Pretty Horses Vineyard!!

Sparkle tape up to scare birds, but we don’t have that long to wait for this grape.

Slowly, the hints of harvest are upon us!
