Please remember that you can shop from any of our vendors/sellers at any time in between markets. Some will even deliver your order to you. This is why I post their pictures and links to their pages, if they have one. All are very accommodating and willing to help you.
They need your support to continue providing specific items to you, the customers, because we need more of this and less shopping at the big box stores. Big businesses like Costco, Superstore or Walmart don't care about you and wouldn't even notice if you stopped shopping there unless more people do it(and even then they might still not notice). Sure, they have some stuff you can't get at the market, I get it. And ya, a lot of the vendors carry similar items that the grocery stores have, but what our vendors have is a much better quality too.
Shopping local at markets and smaller shops helps everyone. Our vendors support the community, shop the community, the money they get from their customers goes back into boosting the economy. Walmart and Superstore or Costco don't give a hoot about the community. They don't spend the money they make here in the community like our vendors do.
Big box stores don't support local like you think they do either. And sure, you can say, well the people who work there support local community and that's great if they do. But that store will still be there to pay those employees because big corporations will always be there I suppose.
We need the people in our community to show up for us, the market and the vendors. We need you to keep coming to our markets every month.
It was a little slower today than usual with foot traffic coming in and I'm sure there are many reasons why that could be. But we need you to keep showing up for us, buying our products and spreading the word about the market. I packed the building full of vendors today, upstairs and downstairs. So, if you have concerns about any of our vendors or products they have, I'd like to know about it. I'd like to be able to correct a problem if there is one. I can't fix it if I don't know about it. I do my best to promote the market, to bring in the vendors I think people and products that our customers will want.
I do all of this organization for free, on my own time and many things with my own money (or my husband's money because he works outside the home and I don't). All the money from the table fees goes directly to the Legion. I do not profit from this market except for what I make at my own table space(which I also pay for, I don't get a free table). So please come and support our vendors and our market. I'm really trying to make it the best thing Killam has ever had.
Thanks again for your support so far this year and we look forward to seeing all of you November 17th and December 15th. Market runs from 10 to 3 pm.
Thanks for reading and letting me vent a little.
