We are all tapped out, literally and figuratively.
It was fairly steady season this year. The chilly April weather helped us keep boiling, and even though the sap might still be running, Dylan and I have pulled taps. 5 a.m. starts to get the fire going before D heads to work, and 14+ hour days for Carman running a reverse osmosis system, an evaporator and various other bits and bobs can get pretty tiring! Not to mention all the hours Aunt Kate puts in making sure everything is filtered, bottled, labelled and counted. Maple syrup is a labour of love.
I want to send a big thanks to Grandma Shirley for showing up with hot suppers - otherwise we'd be eating a lot of chips and syrup for our meals.
We are grateful for the partnership with our friends the Smeltzers, and all the folks who pop by to visit and lend a hand over the season. It's a privilege to be able to have this little side hustle where family and friends come together to make it happen each year.
