Tipsy Toad Grove Farm

Tipsy Toad Grove Farm We are a small mixed regenerative farm in Tremont, NS, offering spray-free veggies and goat hikes. Drop by and say hi!

Tipsy Toad Grove is a small farm in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. We believe in growing things sustainably and ethically - our products are free of spray and antibiotics and we like to let our animals have the freedom to be animals. We produce first and foremost to sustain ourselves, and secondly to provide healthy, fresh food to the people around us. Along with a small herd of miniature nubian

dairy goats, we raise free-roam hens for eggs, pastured poultry, and a variety of other animals as companions and food. We grow spray-free fruits and veggies, tap trees for maple syrup, and also sell goat milk soaps and other body products made right here on the farm. You can find us at the Kentville Farmer's Market on Wednesdays from 10am-2pm.

I apologize that I will not be at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market this week. 😔

This has been a great winter for us with lots of useable snow. Alas, it has not been a great winter for our infrastructure. Heavy snow has resulted in a lot of damage to enclosures and fences, and now the predators, who are undoubtedly hungry after a long winter, have found our all-you-can-eat buffet.

The animals are on lockdown and I am scrambling to make repairs and new builds so they can be safe again. Unfortunately this takes priority over market prep, so I will have nothing to feed you this week. Hopefully by the end of the week I won’t be feeding any predators, either.

I hope you’ll still head to market and let someone else feed you this week! There are lots of great things to choose from, and I’ll look forward to seeing you next Saturday.

Happy New Year Burrito fans!

We have some good news and some bad news to share with you.

First the good: We will be back at the Wolfville Farmers' Market tomorrow with our burrito on! The Carnivore features Spanish Chorizo and rice with beans and tomatoes. Our Herbivore is Harissa Chickpeas, Potatoes, Kale and Peppers. The Brekkie? How about some Bacon, Eggs, Beans, Mushrooms, and Potatoes to kick off your morning with some belly-filling warmth?

Ok, now it’s time for the bad news. As you are no doubt aware, everything has gotten way more expensive in the past year. Our booth fees are increasing, some of our ingredients have tripled in price, and we remain committed to ensuring we are paying a fair wage to our helpers. Alas, we have no choice but to raise our prices. As of January 3rd, Burritos and Bowls will cost $14. That still includes any 5 toppings of your choice, plus hot sauce, and the price of extra toppings will remain at 50 cents each.

We hope that our regular Burrito Biters will understand. If you are a regular, don’t forget to remind us that you have a loyalty card when you make your purchase, and if you don’t have a card yet, please ask for one!

We hope to see you soon and wish you all the best in 2026.

It snowed last night, and that’s a wake up call for us. Now the push begins to clear out the garden, gather up tools and hoses and supports, batten the proverbial hatches and the real ones, too. The garlic still has to be planted, which feels weird this year because it wasn’t long ago that we managed to finally get this year’s out of the cement-like ground.

Many folks think that winter brings a break for farmers, but the reality is that the work continues. Same, but different. Keeping the water flowing in the barns is often a challenge. Feeding out extra hay to keep the beasts warm. Planning next year’s seed purchases. Kidding. Lambing. Scheduling next season’s goat walks. And for some of us, the markets continue year round.

I do love that first snow, though. It usually comes at a time when the ground is pure muck, the wind has a bite, and nothing feels as gentle as it should. It’s like a layer of calm, if only until the reality sets in.

This snow probably won’t see the end of today, but I’m starting my next list and getting ready to shift into cold season survival mode. Thanks for the warning Ma Nature. I’m on it.

This summer 😔.

I was hesitant to put my CSA on hold this year, but I knew that I needed a break from the ever-increasing stress of mitigating the challenges that climate change is throwing at growers. I feel like I copped out, but I am also super glad that I chose this year to do it.

Drought
Blistering Heat
Wildfire
Woods travel bans

Climate anxiety is real.

For all of you who are still filling boxes, loading market tables, and providing food for our communities, thank you. I’m super glad someone is doing it this year, even if it isn’t me.

We are sorry to announce that due to the woods travel ban announced by the provincial government today we are not able to offer our South Mountain Goat Hikes until the ban is lifted. We understand the need for this action by the government, but we are also saddened to have to suspend our experiences.

You are still able to book goat hikes through our booking agent Fareharbor, however we encourage you to assess the situation through the province’s website and Environment Canada Weather befoe choosing a date. We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we know that preventing fires is at the top of everyone’s mind right now during this very dry season.
