Using holistic management practices we rotationally-graze our sheep flock to improve the soil quality on our pastures and our growing cider orchard. The Sweet Sheep Company is an ecological farm near Kingston, Ontario that focuses on regenerative practices. Our sheep are grass fed year-round using rotational grazing from spring to late fall, and bale grazing in the winter. We're proud to be a source for local free-range turkeys, pasture-raised lamb, and Canadian wool in Eastern Ontario.

"It IS a great day for hay...what's it to ya?"

We were able to bring in a bunch of excellent first cut hay today. The kids have really gotten a rhythm down and have become quite the efficient hay crew.

At 4 weeks old (born May 8th) this North Country Cheviot ram lamb is exactly what we’re looking for. The dam (a Stonehouse ewe, 8 years old) keeps her lambs close and they don’t get lost themselves. Great movement in all four legs, nice square and compact frame, and already getting after the forage himself.

Barry and Buster are currently with the rams, in a paddock that contains a pile of ash from some waste-wood burning over the winter. In true puppy fashion, they have made the most of running through the tall wet grass and then rolling in the ashes. Maybe it helps with insects? Maybe they’re just puppies and full of joie de vie?

Iconic: Self Portrait of a Shepherdess Carrying a Livestock Guardian Puppy

Beanie is having a bit of trouble understanding she's supposed to stay *inside* the electric fencing with her sheep instead of trying to follow her people when they do interesting things beyond the fence line.

So, she got the LGD puppy "walk of shame" some 500m back to her sheep this evening, slung over my shoulders. Her spirits were not dampened! The training continues...
