Flying Cross Ranch

Flying Cross Ranch Focusing on helping the beginner rider become a confident rider! He has raced, jumped, team roped and started thousands of colts in his 34 year career.

Roy & Christina Sturgeon started Flying Cross Ranch in 2013 after seeing the need for a place for people new to horses to learn about them and enjoy them. Roy grew up on the back of a horse, by the age of 16 he was at the race track riding races as a professional jockey. Roy is a wonderful teacher who has the ability to make everyone feel comfortable and confident. Christina grew up around horses

and spent the first 21 years of her working career at the race track learning from the bottom up. She worked as a groom learning every aspect of caring for a horse, and worked he way up to managing the race track. Roy & Christina's combined horse knowledge and business knowledge are not the only things that make the ranch what it is, they both share a passion for helping people. Flying Cross Ranch is not just about riding lessons, it is a place where people can come to build meaningful relationships and a sense of community. It is a place for you to feel a sense of belonging, a place for family, where healing happens, and life skills are learned, where joy is experienced, where health returns and the stress of the world disappears. We are so excited that you have decided to allow us to join you in your journey with horses!

🏇 NEW PROGRAM LAUNCH – Flying Cross Gallop & Jockey Development Program 🏇

Ever wondered how riders actually get started galloping horses at the racetrack?

At Flying Cross Ranch, we’re excited to launch our Gallop & Jockey Development Program—a mentorship-based training program designed for riders who want to turn their riding skills into real racetrack opportunities.

This program focuses on what truly matters on the backstretch:
✔️ Correct gallop position & balance
✔️ Galloping safely in company
✔️ Rating speed and following trainer instructions
✔️ Gate work fundamentals
✔️ Reading different horses and personalities
✔️ Professional habits trainers expect
✔️ Safety, reliability, and trust

We also use advanced training tools—including our Equicizer mechanical horse—to help riders build strength, muscle memory, and confidence before taking those skills to a live horse.

📍 Training at Flying Cross Ranch (Lacombe, AB)
📝 Limited spots | Application required

What a beautiful way to spend the day—spreading a little holiday cheer! 🎄✨
Our Jockey Club had the pleasure of taking our ponies to visit the residents of Royal Oak, the long-term care unit at the Lacombe Hospital, and the residents at the Lodge.

So many smiles, happy moments, and memories shared. Thank you to the staff for welcoming us, and to the residents for making our hearts so full today. 💚🐴

These are the moments that remind us what the season is all about.
