This time of year you may notice that some baskets are huge and covered in blooms and yours are looking less full, with not as many blooms. You are wondering why….
The secret to keep your baskets looking their best and growing to their potential? It’s simple. Consistent water and feeding.
We have done the foundational work. When we planted your baskets we used top quality plants, developed the root systems, and gave them an optimal growing environment. We supplemented the soil with premium slow release fertilizer. There is potential for every single basket to look terrific, right through to the first frost.
While the baskets will do alright with little or no additional fertilizer, annual plants need to be fed to reach their full potential. However, plant food is one of those things where more isn’t better. It is possible to harm your plants by feeding them too heavily. It is more beneficial to feed them a weaker solution, more frequently. Choose a water soluble fertilizer with a higher middle number (that promotes full, large blooms). Follow the directions and simply pour into a damp basket. It’s usually about 1.5 teaspoons to a litre of water. Also, try to water the soil, not the plants. As the days get hotter, water twice a day and fertilize 1 to 3 times a week.
