What are your thoughts on colony vs cage setups? At SHA, we do a bit of both! We tend to raise growouts colony style, but breeders may either be in a small colony of 2-3 does or kept in large hutches. We never house breeding age bucks together.

Abigail is a mini plush lop/ holland lop cross, and Plum is a New Zealand.

Just starting to open their eyes! Im really happy with some of the ones from this Rex litter. Some will be available once weaned at 9 weeks. SHA Tina Turner (black otter rex) x Sprout (opal rex) pairing. These ones will be big!!

Unfortunately, her last litter was only 3 kits. With her being a Rex, I definitely expect larger litters from these does.

She put on a good amount of winter weight, some of which she certainly needed to withstand the harsh end to winter in Saskatchewan. From a breeding standpoint though, it is less than ideal.

Obese does are more likely to have problems with kindling, as well as smaller litter size and overall fertility.

So now we cut back the pellets and up the hay, and hope for a future litter full of many little Tinas and Sprouts with the next pairing.
