We would like to express our sincerest condolences to Channay, Darlene, Country Lane Farm and all who have loved and been apart of Teddy's life for all these years. We have been lucky enough to known him since a youngster and stood him for several season to ship. He had a larger than life personality, who made an impression on all who he met. This was on top of being a fabulous show horse and sire....We will leave his tribute to those who knew him best.

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Westporte “Teddy” early this morning at the age of 27.
Westporte touched countless lives, his riders, trainers, grooms, breeders, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. He was truly one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. Gentle, special, and unforgettable, Westporte had a way of making everyone around him in awe of his presence.
Born in Hanover, Germany, Westporte was imported to Canada as a three year old as a 50th birthday present for Darlene York. Originally intended to stand as a private stallion and not be offered to outside mares, it quickly became clear that Westporte had much more to give.
He began his Hunter career and immediately made a name for himself, catching the attention of breeders and winning championships every time out. From the Baby Greens to Green Conformation, he showed under John Turner and Jack Hammond. Later, after many years away from riding, he became Channay Lloyd’s Amateur horse.
As demand for Westporte as a breeding stallion grew, he retired from the show ring and began his next chapter, one that would leave an incredible legacy.
Westporte sired more than 500 foals and was honoured with Sire of the Year by the International Hunter Futurity. He was the sire of the Best Young Horse at Devon, with the top three young horses all carrying his bloodlines. He sired Lieutenant Governor’s Cup winners and Sallie B. Wheeler winners.
And his legacy didn’t stop there.
Under saddle, his offspring went on to become Hunter Derby champions, Hunter champions at some of North America’s biggest venues, 3* eventers, and upper-level jumpers. Westporte’s influence can be found throughout the sport, a legacy that will continue for generations.
But to us, Westporte was so much more than his accomplishments.
Country Lane Farm would not be where it is today without the king. He was our stallion, our champion, our friend, and a part of our family.
We will miss seeing his face when we walk through the front door. We will miss his gentle presence, his kind eyes, and simply knowing that he was there.
Thank you, Westporte, for everything you gave us and for all the lives you touched along the way.
Rest easy, Westporte. You were one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten.
