People are so quick to say farmers “have it made.”

But you don’t see this part.

You don’t see Kids in pajamas, waiting to say goodnight to their dad out in the field… Sometimes fighting sleep just to catch a glimpse of him before the day is over. Nights where “I’ll be in soon” turns into days.

You don’t see a tired & Hungry dad/husband walking to the edge of a field to see his wife & Kids for the first time in 3 days because he’s gone for the day hours before the sun rise & he doesn’t come home until the moon is high in the sky. 🌙

Unless you’re living it—unless you’re the one at home keeping everything together—you don’t see what it really costs. The missed bedtimes. The empty seat at supper. The holidays cut short or spent in the barn. The birthday parties squeezed in between chores… or missed altogether.

You don’t see the wives carrying the weight at home, or the quiet understanding that the farm comes first—because it has to. Because animals still need fed. Crops still need planted & tending to. And there’s no pause button when your livelihood depends on the weather and the clock.

Farming isn’t a job you leave at 5pm every day. It’s a life you give yourself to—over and over again, even when it means giving up time with your family that you can’t get back.

It’s not easy.

Before you complain about those slow tractors on the road or anything else, think about the sacrifices those farmers are making every single day to provide for people who don’t see—or appreciate—it.
