Did you know that Mexico is reporting a 64% increase in the monarch butterfly population in 2026. Great news for a beneficial pollinator.

Awesome news.
Watch your local grocery stores for Ontario produce. Kale, Romain lettuce, dandelion greens, collars, parsley, green onions, and radish harvest has started locally. A couple tags to watch for are Bayshore, Queen Victoria .

Let's talk bacon.
The USA consumes 5.6 Billion pounds of bacon yearly. That equals 15 million pounds per day. And average hog yields about 20 pounds of bacon so on average 767,000 hogs are processed every day to cover the bacon needs.

This is an article about a farm in Belgium.

The World Capital of French Fries Has a Problem: Too Many Potatoes
Belgium’s potato harvest set a record, just as tariffs hit U.S. demand for frozen fries and as competition from suppliers in Asia intensified.

A thousand tons of potatoes were stacked 15 feet high in a warehouse on Kris D’haeyere’s farm for months. Even though he offered to sell them for just a couple of euros per ton, no one wanted to buy them.

So Mr. D’haeyere did the unthinkable: This month, he dumped the crop back into his fields in eastern Belgium, the cheapest way to dispose of enough potatoes to make 200 million French fries.

Other farmers are doing the same, as Europe faces a surplus of five million metric tons of the type of potato used for fries.

For months, the price of a metric ton of potatoes on the spot market in Belgium, the world’s biggest exporter of frozen fries, has languished at precisely zero. It was nearly 600 euros ($690) three years ago.

Well yesterday I pulled out this little planter to put in a couple test plots of new varieties of sweetcorn. Even though this 1 row planter was made in late 1950's early 1960's she still works like a charm and is great for little area's.

Was reading an interesting article, here is a recap.
Every year, 27.7 million tons of Saharan dust crosses the Atlantic Ocean and settles on the Amazon rainforest, delivering roughly the exact amount of phosphorus the rainforest loses to runoff, which means the world's most productive forest is fertilised, year after year, by the slow erosion of the planet's largest desert thousands of miles away.

On May 14, 2026 we were blessed with some visitors to our family farm. Scouts Canada 63 Windsor Beaver scout colony came to see how popcorn , sweetcorn and grain corn is planted. I planted a small plot of popcorn for them and this fall they will be able to come and pick it for themselves. We are able to do this at no cost to the children with the help of
Ag Alumni Seed providing us with the popcorn seed. I will send the group weekly pictures so they can follow the growth of their popcorn. Learning a little about where food comes from is a great way to connect our city and agriculture sector.
Celebrating our family farms 150th year of producing food.
We are truly blessed!
