Mountain Spring Farm

Mountain Spring Farm I've been breeding, raising and training horses since 1985, and have settled in to Sport Ponies the last few years. Conformation/ temperament/Versatile

I have always been interested in safe, sound, sane ponies for kids. My stallion, Mountain Spring's Araban, is producing this kind of pony. Not only are they of good mind, they are athletic and willing and very trainable. My ponies have been sold as children's mounts as well as adult mounts. North American Sport Ponies are bred similar to Sport Horses, where there are a lot of factors taken in to consideration. Check out the NASP website. http://americansportpony.com/

Be great if our Vets offered this!

He’s not “confident.”

He’s unemployed and in love with everyone.

Gelding season is open. Cooler weather is the point — fewer flies, better recovery, and you get your horse back on track to being a useful citizen.

Allossery Equine is running a special on November castrations on-farm across York Region, Simcoe, and Durham. Give us a shout and we’ll walk you through whether gelding is the right next step for your horse.

I need to vent about something. Some of you may not like what I'm going to say, and I understand. Just try to remember that I often see things from a different perspective.

It has become extremely fashionable the last several years for folks to "rescue" horses from "kill auctions". And boy has the internet made it easy to do so. Why, all you have to do is pay 100 times more than any kill buyer ever would, and you got yourself a horse that you know nothing about, not even breed or age or temperament or illnesses or hidden diseases or serious behavioral issues. Doesn't matter. You SAVED that horse, you're a g-d hero!!!

The thing is... you maybe haven't had horses and you don't know how to take care of a horse in the real world. You don't have the extra finances to get a vet out. You don't know how to deal with physical or behavioral issues and you can't afford a trainer. You didn't know horses needed farrier care or dental care. But it's ok because you got yourself a real life Kill Pen horse and you're a g-d hero!!!

And so the horse doesn't do well and doesn't gain weight and in fact loses more weight and doesn't get any healthier and then it gets lame/colics/injured and you can't pay the vet who -- shockingly -- insists on being paid for providing emergency professional services, which is so wrong because did you mention that you RESCUED this horse from a Kill Pen and you're a g-d HERO?!!

So animal control gets called, and you wail and moan that you were doing a good thing, you were doing a righteous thing, you were doing your best to rescue this horse from a Kill Pen so it wouldn't SUFFER!!!!

So it wouldn't suffer.

So it wouldn't... suffer.

Let me tell you something.

GOOD INTENTIONS ARE NOT ENOUGH.
Read it again. And again.

Good intentions without resources and education are NOT ENOUGH.

Ignorance is NOT an excuse for neglect and abuse.

Yes, you are guilty of neglect and abuse. You did not save that horse. You PROLONGED his suffering. You got caught up in the emotions of it and you did not understand the enormity of what you took on and you made no attempt to learn until it was too late. That is not love. That is not righteous. That is not rescue. That... is abuse.

Don't do it unless you can do it right. You're not a hero. You're careless, and carelessness leads to death. And I'm sick of seeing it. I'm g-d sick of seeing it!!!!!

EDIT: I've turned off commenting because the stupid people showed up.
