from seed to sweep
i grew broomcorn and i’ve been making sweeps - i’m feeling thoroughly obsessed with this craft that i’m being drawn to every evening.
i’ve grown a few varieties of sorghum mainly the delicious grain varieties for flour or popping but this has taken my love for sorghum to another level.
i cut and trimmed all my sorghum in the field before i’d really thought about what i was going to do with it (beyond seed production) so i’m relegated to hand sweeps for now.
in a few if the photos you’ll see my experiments with other plants. asni have been threshing my seed crops some plants have stems that i put aside to experiment with making sweeps. vervain, tulsi, shiso, cress, flax.
hope to figure out how to offer these for sales over the next while. 🌱

through fall and winter i get to spend many, many hours threshing and cleaning alllllll the seeds i’ve grown along with the seeds grown at annapolis_seeds - that’s a LOT of seeds and a huge diversity of shapes, sizes and amounts.
- we bought this magical machine 2 (or3?) winters ago and it has transformed this joyful seed work.
hats off to a true wizard luterra.ent for bringing the winnow wizard into being.

elderberry syrup!

- currently baking once a week for pick up at our stand (wintery weather dependent).
-whole grains, organic where possible, longggg ferment, vegan, super delicious.
-the pizza dough is amazing and makes 2 thin crust or 1 thick crust.
-both the bread and pizza dough freeze well.

somehow we have arrived at garlic time - this summer season has been a lot but we are here now and who knows where tomorrow will take us.
meanwhile- here are our garlic offerings for this year - seed garlic is $3 a bulb.
i have a few braids done up they range between $40 and $60 each.
