Shepherding a meadow that has such a variation in vegetation…… native fescue , Reed canary , raspberries , quack , wild columbine , timothy to name some , it’s truly one of my favourite pastures . Of course there is the lovely thistle , yarrow and sedges 🤨…. quite prolific due to the drought the last few years . The flock had a bit of a rest under the evergreens then started out grazing again , it’s not hot today so the rest was short .

Lambs are looking great , got some good size on the majority of them . The timely rains and now dry weather for good grazing and growing . Pictures include triplet lambs with ewe , and a single ewe lamb with ewe , she is almost the same size of her mom . You can sure see the McDermit ram influence on her with her fleece and build .
Lambs will be available this September . Ewe lambs and wethers .

Providence Lane Homestead is hosting their farm for Alberta Farm Days Aug 15-16 . I am speaking there on Saturday about livestock guardian dogs and will have our farms’ honey available, Shars and Sheep ‘n Honeybees , along with other vendors . Looking forward to seeing you there !

Meet Hannah , our “new” border collie . She has been here for a month and a half and we are really clicking . Our other collie Charlie is now retired.
With grazing out in the unfenced meadows I was a bit worried about the help I needed to keep the sheep in place , Louise Liebenberg offered Hannah to me which I am grateful for .

Pastures are looking good thanks to timely rain … soon it will be time to graze the days out in unfenced meadows . Both Liv and Brida have been doing well , I was hoping two females would be my main working pair , they are both younger . Incidentally they are both in heat , as well as my border collie and there have been no negative hormonal reactions. I really really like these two girls .🐾🐾
