Sgt. Walter Turnbull Davidson.
Grandad once told us the story of how he was delayed getting into the army during WWII.
They wouldn't accept any applicants who tested positive for TB, and Grandad's first test came back positive, so while most of his friends shipped out right away, Grandad was forced to go through more testing.
He explained how he went from nervous about joining the Air Force, to afraid that he had tuberculosis.
After more testing, it was discovered that the positive test had come from being in contact with someone in the past 48hrs who had TB; in this case, it was someone from their harvest crew that he was working with, as they all drank from the same water dipper.
Once he received a clear test, he joined the Air Force as a Navigator.
I asked Grandad if he was scared to go to war, and his response was, "Yes I was scared to go, but I was more scared of what would happen if Hi**er wasn't stopped."
I have never forgotten that.
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.”
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
Thank you Grandad, and all those who served and serve.
Today, we honor you; and every day we remember you.
