Florists and flower farmers would work better together if we treated the season like the inspiration, not the limitation.

We recently shared this thought in a magazine interview, and looking at our field right now, it couldnā€™t be truer.

Right now, the Geum is putting on a spectacular show, but it only lasts for about two weeks. Itā€™s glorious, special, and incredibly fleeting.

It takes a truly skilled florist to look at a narrow window like that and see an opportunity, not a roadblock. Designers who know how to embrace these fleeting varieties are the ones creating the most breathtaking, unique work.

There isnā€™t much the good olā€™ 1020 canā€™t accomplish.

We switched to white bio mulch (rather than black) this season to beat the heat on our small seedlingsā€¦

Now itā€™s time to rest on Sunday as we head into a full week of planting. Itā€™s going to be a hustle to get the plants into the ground. The weather has been quite chilly, so we are about 2 weeks behind our typical timelineā€¦ but if thereā€™s one thing I've learned, the weather is 100% out of my control.
