homemade potato chips
Ingredients:
3β4 medium potatoes (any starchy type, like Russet or Yukon Gold)
Oil for frying (vegetable, sunflower, or canola oil)
Salt β to taste
Optional seasonings:
Black pepper
Chili powder
Garlic powder
Paprika
Chat masala (for an Indian-style twist)
π½οΈ Instructions:
1. Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the potatoes.
Slice them very thinly using a sharp knife or mandoline slicer (about 1β2 mm thick).
Put the slices in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for 20β30 minutes.
π‘ This removes extra starch and helps make the chips crispy.
2. Dry the Slices
Drain the water and pat the slices completely dry with a clean towel or paper napkin.
Any moisture left will make the chips soggy.
3. Heat the Oil
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium flame.
To test: drop one slice in β if it bubbles right away, the oil is ready.
4. Fry the Chips
Add a few slices at a time (donβt overcrowd the pan).
Fry until they turn golden brown and crisp, about 2β3 minutes per batch.
Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
5. Season
While still warm, sprinkle salt and your favorite seasonings.
π₯ Optional Variations:
Baked version: Brush slices lightly with oil, spread on a baking sheet, and bake at 200Β°C (400Β°F) for 15β20 minutes, flipping halfway.
Air fryer version: Spray with oil and air fry at 180Β°C (360Β°F) for 10β12 minutes, shaking once or twice.
