The Couple That Lunches

The Couple That Lunches Turning Mondays into mini adventures. Turning Mondays Into Mini Adventures!! Our lives are wonderful and full, but it can also be tiring and stressful.

We are Natalie and Allan, a couple who live in south-western Ontario (near London & Sarnia). Every Monday is a day of rest for us, and we are excited to share our adventures looking for fun date locations where we'll enjoy a wonderful experience and some delicious food.

Thanks to Google’s randomizer we landed at Scaddabush in London for our Monday adventure. What a lovely vibe, wonderful service, and some very very tasty Italian food.

We started with the servers recommendation, a mozzarella with prosciutto and fig jam app. Apparently they actually hand make the mozzarella in house every day. Then Allan had the butchers pizza and Natalie had the spaghetti carbonara.

The menu had about 10 other things that also caught our eye, so we might be leaving it on the list to try again on a future Monday with a totally different spread.

On another frigid Monday. Perfect for a warm yummy date. This week we went to Thaifoon in downtown London.

We shared an order of Crispy Wontons to start. Natalie enjoyed her Peanut Pasta and I (Allan) tried my best to get through the Chilli Chicken (It was very tasty, but CRAZY hot 🥵). Full disclosure, I definitely dismissed the waiter‘s warning that it was pretty spicy. Despite my hubris, it being entirely my own fault, and my attempts to pretend like there weren’t tears dripping down my cheeks, the incredibly gracious waiter had so much pity that he gave us a complimentary coconut ice cream. Normally ice cream when it’s -14 would seem nuts, but it was about the only saving grace that kept me from sticking my head in a snow bank. 🙄

Today’s stop…The Bungalow in London. It was frigid cold so we rushed in and out and forgot to get a selfie. 🙄 The food was phenomenal!!!!! We shared some chipotle chicken spring rolls (we’d go back just for these!) and then Natalie got a bacon jam Mac’n’Cheese and Allan got a jalapeño popper bacon and cheese smash burger.

A nice chill vibe inside. Unassuming from the outside. Delightful service. And the pub style food…seriously wow!

We got to enjoy a delicious little date in downtown London this week at the Church Key Bistro and Pub. Super quaint. Fabulously flavorful food. And a treat to get out as the two of us.

We shared some grilled octopus and then Natalie had a pasta dish special with beef tips and Allan had the lamb curry.

🎄 The Couple That Lunches — Christmas Break Edition 🎄

School’s out for two whole weeks, and we are so ready to soak up this sweet season with our kids. Tonight’s adventure took us to Storybook Gardens for a cozy winter evening that felt like pure Christmas magic.

We grabbed a spot outside by the rink, shared hot fries and BeaverTails, and laced up for some skating under the lights. Honestly? The Storybook Gardens fries weren’t exactly something to write home about… but when you’re outdoors, surrounded by family, laughter, and twinkly lights, it hardly matters.

And really—can anything go wrong with hot pastry smothered in peanut butter, chocolate, and Reese’s Pieces? We think not. 😉

A simple, joyful way to kick off the Christmas holidays, making memories the old-fashioned way—together. ❤️

Would you go back?
✔️ For the experience
✔️ For the skating
✔️ Definitely for the BeaverTails

❄️ Snowstorm Tacos > Staying in Pajamas 🌮

It was one of those snowy days where staying in pajamas felt like the right choice… but we braved the storm anyway and headed to Southwold for one of our tried-and-true favourites: El Chapo Taco Truck.

Worth it. Every time.

Nat went with the pickle chicken taco (yes, pickle — and yes, it works beautifully), while Allan chose the sweet & spicy Korean pork. Both were incredibly flavourful, wonderfully messy, and loaded with fresh toppings. That cotija cheese and lime crema? Absolute perfection.

Because snow days call for comfort food, we also grabbed the ultimate dip — refried beans, ground beef, warm queso — plus a pile of their fresh, flavour-packed nachos. Everything tasted fresh, bold, and made with care.

Bonus win: we even scored some cheap gas on the way home. 🙌

Would-you-go-back meter?
🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮 — no hesitation.

Snowstorm or not, this little taco stop never disappoints.

✈️ The Couple That Lunches — A Delicious Detour

Our plans took an unexpected turn today! We were supposed to hit The Smoking Caboose in St. Thomas… but they were closed. So off we went to London to pick up Nat’s new glasses, and—because adventure always finds us—we ended up at Katana Kafé & Grill right at the London Airport.

We rolled in at 11:50 and snagged the last two seats (they definitely weren’t kidding when they said you usually need reservations!). By God’s grace and good timing, we landed perfect window seats overlooking the runway at the Diamond Flight Centre. Lunch and a private airshow? Yes please.

To start we shared their buttermilk fried calamari with chipotle sauce—crispy, tender, and honestly a great way to kick things off.
Nat ordered the Steak & Potato Pie, stuffed with juicy steak, tender veggies, and potatoes wrapped in a comforting pastry with a warm, homey gravy.
Allan went with the Beef Dip with Havarti, a classic done well and perfect for a chilly day.

The food was tasty and came out fast, but the real star of this stop was the experience—planes taking off and landing just steps away from our table made it such a fun, unexpected treat.

And because we’ve never met a road-trip detour we didn’t like… we swung down the road to Annie’s Chocolates and tried their chocolate-covered butter tarts. Zero regrets. Highly recommend.

Would we go back?
For the planes + the cozy vibes: absolutely.
For the food: solid comfort food with a view you just can’t beat.

✨ The Couple That Lunches – Plympton-Wyoming Edition ✨
Spot: LOCAL

Today’s lunch adventure took us to the charming town of Plympton-Wyoming… and wow, did we stumble onto a gem.

LOCAL had us hooked from the first bite. We kicked things off with the Drifters Dip—a warm, cheesy, birria-loaded dream. Comfort food at its finest.

Then came the real dilemma:
Birria tacos?
Bison-Brie burger with bacon jam?
Naturally… we chose both. And shared. Because teamwork.

Let’s talk about that burger for a second. I’m not usually a “burger at a restaurant” person—but this one changed my mind. Two thick slices of Brie melting over juicy bison, topped with sweet-savory bacon jam… honestly one of the best burgers we’ve had in ages.

The birria tacos were packed with flavour and served with a rich beef dip—messy in the best way.

We already know we’ll be back to try their fusion tacos next time.

Small town, big flavours, and another unexpected win on our lunch-date quest.
Loving this journey of discovering local spots we never would’ve thought to try! ✨🍽️

Kicking off our Monday lunch adventure in the sweetest little spot: Thai Pad in Lucan. This place may be small and quiet, but it’s packed with flavour and warm hospitality — the kind that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a hidden gem.

One thing we didn’t expect? Two menus!
A full American menu and a traditional Thai menu — a fun surprise for a Monday date.

We shared pork spring rolls to start, and they were crispy, fresh, and disappeared embarrassingly fast. No regrets.

Allan went for the Royal Pad Thai with Chicken — a huge serving (he couldn't even finish it). The peanut sauce was rich and full of flavour, one of those comforting dishes you could happily eat again.

Nat chose the Coconut Lime Stir Fry with Beef — bright, saucy, loaded with veggies (which is the dream). The coconut curry had this lovely light lime note, and the eggplant… delicious.

All in all, a cozy spot that surprised us in the best way.

Got a place you think we should try next Monday? Drop it in the comments — we’re building our local lunch bucket list one bite at a time!
