This just never gets old. Maybe because it's like Easter every day.

Are you aware that there are proposed changes to the Saskatchewan Food Safety Regulations that amongst other things would ban the sale of farm fresh eggs at all grocery stores and farmers' markets across the province? The proposed changes would reclassify all grocery stores and farmers' market vendors as 'food distributors' and require that all food they sell come from 'approved sources'.

I strongly disagree with this amendment because I believe people should be free to choose where they source their food. I think the government dictating to people what foods are 'approved' or 'not approved' is overreach.
Local farm fresh eggs are typically not only far more nutritious with better animal welfare standards than the 'approved/graded' eggs but when purchased locally they have a smaller carbon footprint and support a local economy. This amendment would force an incredibly healthy food source that has been responsibly handled and safely sold globally for centuries to move to a black market type of system.

There are so many stressors right now with the US tariffs, inflation and rising food costs, uncertainty with our own federal government, etc. I wish that our Saskatchewan government would do more to promote our local growers, food establishments and producers right now so that they can continue to feed their communities under these circumstances.
The proposed amendment discussed above along with the others add a level of bureaucracy that will undoubtedly hinder the growth or even the continuation of many of these small scale local businesses that are likely struggling as it is.
I know my community and customers are extremely intelligent and can make their own decisions about how to feed themselves.

How you can help? The Ministry of Health had put out a survey to collect public feedback about these proposed changes however apparently they have already reached their quota of submissions! Please take a moment to email your MLA asking them to protect our right to access healthy, local food and support small Saskatchewan businesses and entrepreneurs.
