Reading with Ponies Mini Hearts Ranch tomorrow in the Annapolis Valley

📚 Read to a Pony Day - with our guest local author Jane Baskwill 📚

Sunday, 30th August
10 am - 1 pm

Be in a fun and relaxed environment around some of our lovely miniature horses and goats. Pet and groom them while they munch on some hay or rest in their stables. Each child who visits gets to choose a book from our collection of books, read to any pony (or goat), and take the book home with them.
Jane will be reading her soon to be published book, Peanut Measures Up. You can be the first to hear the story about a little pony named Peanut, who has one very big wish - to be bigger.

Our pop-up shop will be open, and tea and juice will be offered for refreshments.

All ages welcome.
Admission is $5 per person.
Pony rides will also be offered for $5 for up to the age of 6.

Located in Port Lorne.

This. Just do it.

You can sure get a lot done if you aren’t worried about being “perfect” all the time.

Perfection will have you overthinking, second-guessing, waiting for the “right” time, and being afraid to mess up. Meanwhile, progress comes from simply doing the work.

Do it imperfectly. Learn as you go. Fix what needs fixing. Get better with repetition.

You don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. Sometimes the people who accomplish the most aren’t the ones who do everything perfectly—they’re the ones who are willing to start, adjust, and keep going.

Progress over perfection. Every single time.

It's been hot and humid and we have been laying low. Took advantage of reasonable temperatures over the weekend to get a couple young horses worked. One of our young 4h/Pony Club friends came out to play. She hopped on our young QH JimmyC, and her Mom captured a couple photos of me putting the very first ride on our 3 yr old Newfoundland Pony Little Lorimer nps 1056, out of Canaan Fancy nps 905 by Little Buddy nps 792.

Did you know the Newfoundland Pony was once an essential part of everyday life in Newfoundland?

Long before tractors, trucks and ATVs, these little ponies were the hardworking partners of Newfoundland families. 💪🏻

They were used for:
🌲 Hauling firewood and timber from the woods
🌊 Hauling kelp and seaweed from the beaches to gardens
🎣 Pulling fishing nets and hauling fish
🌾 Ploughing gardens and fields for planting
🌱 Carrying crops from the fields back to the barns
🌾 Gathering and hauling hay
🪨 Hauling rocks and other heavy loads
🛷 Pulling sleighs through the snow
🐴 Providing transportation by horseback, cart and wagon
⛏️ And even working alongside people in industries such as mining!

For many rural and outport families, the Newfoundland Pony wasn't simply a horse in the pasture. They were transportation, farm equipment, draft animal and family companion all in one. ❤️

They could haul wood in the winter, help prepare the gardens in the spring, bring in hay and crops through the summer, and carry their families wherever they needed to go.

Today, their jobs look a little different, but that same versatility is still there. Newfoundland Ponies are used for riding, and can be found enjoying everything from trail riding and pleasure riding to dressage, jumping and other equestrian activities. 🐎
