The first Spring Peepers! They mark the beginning of the cranberry season, telling us when to put out the sprinkler heads, start up the frost control system, and get ready for another year.

It’s not manure, it’s sand! In the winter when the bogs are frozen, cranberry farmers spread sand. When the snow melts, the sand falls on the vines, encouraging the runners to grow new roots and rejuvenating the plants. This way the same cranberry plants can grow fruit every fall for over 100 years!

As always, we are grateful for your support of Canadian made products and look ahead to the possibilities 2026 holds for us all.
Our Heckman's Island location has closed for Christmas break and will be open December 29th & 30th from 8-3 and December 31st 8-12 noon.
Closed January 1st & 2nd.

Remember all those cold rainy days in November? Colin, Dave M, Dave E, and various helpers were out in the fields every one of those miserable uncomfortable days. They are finally on the last site, and hope to finish this week.

Wow! Thank you to all of the people who submitted a guess for the total pounds of cranberries picked during our 2025 U-Pick!
The total picked over 14 days was 618.26 lbs
Leah Nakkers came out as the winner in a random draw of two people with the same guess.
We're so happy to have been able to open the bog for picking this season. It was great seeing old friends and making new ones!
Some fun facts:
Largest weigh out, by a couple from Dartmouth, 42.74 lbs 😲
Pickers from farthest away came from Devon, Alberta 🇨🇦
Over 125 people came out to pick over the course of 14 days.

We have to give a HUGE thank you shout out to Jean Finney for looking after the u-pick and bog store pop up shop! We simply could not have done it without her and are grateful for her kindness, knowledge and welcoming spirit.

Stay tuned for floating berries on the Heckman's Island bogs in the weeks to come.

** Please note! This is for our 14 days of u-pick activity here on Heckman's Island. Where folks went on the bogs and hand picked their own fresh cranberries. NOT our commercial harvest crop.**

All you have to do is guess, in the comments below, how many pounds of beautiful red berries were picked on our Bog over 14 days, and we will ship you a Terra Beata product pack anywhere in Canada. Closest guess wins 🏆
