Some cool fruit on display this weekend at Exotic Fruit Nursery in Lunenburg! Akebia quinata or Chocolate Vine (no, it does have nothing to do with chocolate) is ripening and the sausage-like purple fruit are dangling on our arbour. The fruit are edible and so sweet and refreshing. Akebias are cold hardy to USDA zone 4 and seem to do well in Nova Scotia but did not show any invasive 'taking over the world' tendencies at our orchard. An easy to grow and very unique climber that does not disappoint in taste and awesomeness. I will have the plants ready again next spring but am sold out at the moment. Lots of other unusual plants are still available and ready for fall planting at our nursery! FRESH FRUIT for sale at Exotic Fruit Nursery!
Unsprayed and biologically grown fruit is available at our nursery - this week we have sweet seedless dessert grapes ($6/bag), apples ($4/pound), Asian Pears ($6/pound), Real Quince ($5/pound) and also lots of Beafsteak tomatoes.
And our olive trees have their first olive fruit on them!
Open every Friday and Saturday from 10am-5pm, Sundays from 10am-3pm, all other days by appointment.

FARMERS MARKET LOCATION CHANGE!
Today we'll be at the Blockhouse Fire Hall parking lot in Blockhouse (right beside the Bakery) instead of the Lunenburg Arena - due to the water restrictions caused by the Dares Lake dam break.
10am - 2pm
We'll have lots of sweet seedless dessert grapes!
And a selection of our fruit plants + dried fruit.

We have Schisandra chinensis (Five-Flavour-Fruit) berries available!
Still some fresh from the vines and some frozen as they do not store long. $1/cluster or $40/pound.
Only 2-3 berries/day needed for great health benefits.
Schisandra balanced the nervous system, boosts the immune system, protects the liver and reduces inflammation. It is extensively used in Chinese medicine.
We also sell the plants, which are cold hardy in Nova Scotia.
And the first sweet seedless grapes are ready as well!

We will be at the Lunenburg Farmers Market with our first fruit tomorrow, August 06 from 8am-12pm!
Our 3 year old Bagel peach tree single-handed produced over 600 fruit this year.
Fresh melt-in-your-mouth sweet Bagel peaches and fresh Jujubes are also available at our nursery this weekend. We are open every Friday and Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sundays from 10am-3pm.
Seedless sweet dessert grapes will be ripening soon.

Cold-hardy evergreen Yucca plants!
Very beautiful and unusual looking, the flower stalks of Yucca filamentosa can reach 6 to 8 feet and display large white to cream-coloured bell flowers taken out of a fairy book. Very easy to grow, drought-tolerant and disease-free they love dry sandy soil and full sun. Hardy to USDA zone 4 or -35 Celsius.
The strong fibers of the leaves can be used for cordage.
Available in 2 gallon pots for $25/each - no taxes charged

We have grafted Medlar 'Breda Giant' available, a variety that produces very large fruit.
Medlars (Mespilus germanica) with their sweet, soft and delicious apple-like fruit are very rare and quite unique. Their soft flesh tastes like applesauce with cinnamon. An ancient small tree that is easy to grow and that rivals a rose bush in dignified beauty with its large white blossoms nestled in a whorl of large dark green leaves. Medlars are self-fertile and hardy to USDA zone 4.

We are ready for the season! With a new plant sales area in the making and a new parking lot, we welcome you to the Exotic Fruit Nursery in Lunenburg, 77 Front Centre Road. Lots of new plants in stock, such as disease-resistant sweet cherries, apples, pears and Japanese plums. Stop by during our regular opening hours every Friday and Saturday from 10am-5pm, Sundays from 10am-3pm or make and appointment during the week for plant sales, the gift shop or jungle tours.
