Jackknife Creek Land & Cattle is a beef and grain farm owned and operated by the Noble family near Manning, AB. We offer delivery to Manning, Peace River and Grimshaw. We also deliver to Grande Prairie and Edmonton (and points in between) every 4-8 weeks.

Bulk beef will be very limited this fall. September is open now, and after that - no guarantees until early January.

No October. No November. No December.

Why such limited availability? The short answer is: the process for getting beef to your dinner table involves many steps along the whole supply chain. Some steps we can control, and some steps we can't.

For the fall, one step in the supply chain is at capacity, and we need to give it some time to catch up.

If September doesn't work for you, you can book January now and join the fall waitlist - just in case something opens up. Our newsletter subscribers got first shot at the waitlist, and it's growing by the day.

We don’t often have long stretches without half beef availability. So if you've been on the fence about buying a half, grab a September one before they're gone.

Jolene is headed south with beef orders and has a bit of room left if you’re looking to place an order. She will be delivering en route from Manning to Calgary. She will not be doing home deliveries in Calgary - only meeting customers late in the evening near the airport.

We try to graze as many days as possible each year.

One way we graze through the winter is swath grazing. We grow 8 different plants in the same field and then cut it with the swather before fall. Each day from September to February we move an electric wire to give the cows and calves access to new swaths (fresh feed). It helps our soil health and it’s been a great change for our cow herd.

Our fields were seeded a bit late this year but the last couple of days have been hot and this stuff is pushing 4 feet tall. It has another ten days or so of growing to do before we cut it. There will definitely be plenty of feed this year!

The picture is the crazy big leaves on the forage peas. They’re out doing themselves this year!

Moving cows to fresh pasture sounds like a peaceful job. But no matter how full they are, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. And they’re terrible at sharing so it’s a race to the greenest blade. There’s nothing more peaceful than a pen full of bawling cows. It’s the greatest perk of rotational grazing.

Are you an adventurous eater? Or maybe you have some foods that are part of your family's traditions?

Sometimes these recipes call for cuts that can be hard to find. But we've got you covered.

Here are a few we carry:
- oxtail (flavourful soups and stews)
- tongue (on its own, in tacos, or corned)
- liver (classic liver and onions of course!)
- heart (great fried)
- cheeks (slow cooked to fork tender, with strong beef flavour)
- soup bones (make your own broth)
- suet fat (render down to tallow for cooking, or lotion!)

And one of the best parts?

Not only are these cuts packed with both flavour and nutrients, because they aren't very mainstream they are much more affordable!

This view is pretty hard to beat.

And despite the wet spring having made seeding a long, drawn out affair, this makes things easier.

On days we couldn't be out in the field, knowing the grass and hay were flourishing helped a lot.

Having both grain and livestock on the farm isn't always easy - sometimes it feels like there really isn't an off season.

But how they complement each other is certainly a big plus. If we get an untimely rain on the crops, being able to say "well, the pastures will be loving this at least" sure helps us stay on the bright side!

On the look out for something to show Dad how special he is this Father’s Day? This is the box for you! Grilling and snacking favs including an impressive tomahawk steak. All 100% made from beef grown and raised on our family farm.

Box includes:
- 1 tomahawk steak
- 2 sirloin steaks
- 1 pack of smokies
- 1 pack of hot dogs
- 2 lb of medium ground beef (best for burgers!)
- 1 pack of beef jerky

Only available for Manning, Peace River and Grimshaw before Father’s Day. Peace River and Grimshaw order deadline is Thursday to guarantee delivery by the weekend.
